RE:
Is 666 a myth?
Read revelation 13:18 and tell me that the numbers 666 are a myth and not the devils numbers. If you do read it and still believe it is a myth and that it isnt satans number. Explain why.

This is one stroy I was told. Revelations was writen during a time when rival religions, known as cults, were being whiped out. The book was writen to frighten the pagans into converting. 666 was a goddess number, a numerical link to the triple goddess and by making it the number of the anti-Christ it became evil. I think Revelations is a lovely and scary book, one I have read most often and if I think about it too much I have been able to see the signs of John's warning in the world for over 10 years. But I'm Pagan what do I know.

When one says something is a myth that doesn't necessarily mean that it is true or false. It just means that we don't know for sure--Not scientific. It can't be proved. Therefore 666 is a myth as is the bible, Satan, etc. Religion is in reality a leap of faith--all religions.

Might I suggest you read Revelation VERY carefully, as it does happen to be one of my favourite books in the bible (the imagery is something else, if metaphoric in nature).
666 is the number of the beast, who is a man (or sometimes just written 'who is man'), which equates to the anti-christ, not Satan.
Rev 13:18 - Wisdom is needed here; one who understands can calculate the number of the beast, for it is a number that stands for a person. His number is six hundred and sixty-six.
So it's neither a myth nor Satan's number.

The Earth is carbon based. The Carbon atom consists of 6 negative charges (electrons), 6 positive charges (protons) and 6 non-charged particles (neutrons). The number appears in the Bible; 'here is wisdom, let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast; for it is the number of man; and his number is 666...' (Revelation XIII, 18)
9 is the highest number that can be reached before becoming one with God, the soul or a Supergod---a spiritual teacher. 666 represents the Earth below, Hell or the Devil. The purpose of life is to convert the body, 666, into Godly energy, 999.
The reference is from a book titled "Jesus, King Arthur AND THE Journey of THE Grail---The Secrets OF THE Sun Kings

In the alphabet, letters have a numerical correspondence. Supposedly in the hebrew alphabet, the numbers correspond to Nero. He was really scary, and there was alot of concern at the time that he would return after his death, apparently he was considered to be the beast, at the time it was written...I don't have a link for you, but it seems to me that I read it in The Women's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets. I have found similar references to it by searching the web as well, if you have the patience to wade through all the anti-Christ stuff to find it... John was a prisoner, with an axe to grind. What would you have to say to people who put you away on an island? :)

Definately a myth.
Revelations is written by a disciple named John. He had been sent to prison and outed to a remote deserted island, where he went crazy and gouged his own eyeballs out. THEN wrote revelations on his visions. And everyone believes it all because he was a disciple in the past. Well, people do turn bad when they were previously good and people do turn mentally ill when they were previously in good mental health. John was only a man like anyone else. God did not write revelations.

It has nothing to do with Satan, in Jewish mysticism 666 was the symbol of the Roman Emperor. The Book of Revelation was written as a criticism of the Roman Empire. Remember that at the time, the Romans had begun worshipping the Emperor as a the son of god and persecuting the Christians as a dangerous cult.

The bible never says anything about 666 being associated with the devil or the anti-christ... it is the number of the beast. This is symbolic, as is all of the bible, esp. Revelations. John was an amazing poet with a knack for the dramatic.
