I think a lot of people took unnecessary offense to this question. Your husband is not African-American and he doesn't want to name your son a name that is typically reserved for "black people". I know a boy who was named Tyrone, he is Caucasian and was teased mercilessly in school for having a "black name". Your husband didn't say he hated the names because he hates black people - he didn't want to give his son a name that would set him up for teasing. A lot of people here just need to grow up.
Isaiah and Isaac/Issac are not black names. They are Arabic/Hebrew, but that doesn't mean they are African American names either. Arabs are not black, they are Middle Eastern/Asian. I don't know any Isaac/Issac or Isaiah that is African-American. They are very strong, Biblical names. :) Good luck!

Sir Issac Newton anyone? Isaiah IS biblical, but it's also become a "black" name in the last 60 years or so it seems. Although there were probably just as many white folks as black named Isaiah before 1900. The only Issacs I know are white, however.
I also think alot of folks are being too hard on your husband! It's his son too, he has a say the name. And someone can say "I want to name my son something that is inline with my percieved ethnic heritage," that is until they're white? So if some black guy wants to name his daughter "Sheqwierschwa" its more honorable than this woman's husband wanting to name his kid Edward? Rascism doesn't have any requisite from which it comes or is recieved, we all have the potential to be hated because of our color.

Issac and Isaiah are biblical names, and I've came across people of different races, mostly white with those names, I really didn't think that there are names reserved for only a specific race. I know alot of Micheal's that are black, and I have an aunt named Mary and Elizabeth are these names only reserved for white people?

You can't name a white baby Shaniqwa! There sure as hell are black names. Please stop these silly posts about names not being race orientated. Black people can use white names but you don't see any white Tyrese walking around. It's Tyler for white people. I only fell into this ridiculous conversation because I'm having a white baby and want to name him Isaiah. As for the person who asked I personally think Isaiah works for white people. My last name is steinberg though, if you're catholic maybe this isn't the best road for you.

I know a lot of white guys named Isaac, not any black. I know many black guys named Isaiah. Although these names are not black and white they are associated with certain races. Your husband sounds like he may be a bit in denial about not being racist. If you like a name then use it. Who cares what race uses it most. Or just create your own names. That's what I do. My children are mixed and I hate common over used names. I wanted to give my children special names because they are special people. My son's name is Amarion Kiez, and my daughter's name is Aniyah Kierra. Their names also have meanings pertaining to our family.

I know several Isaac's and not one of them is "black." I also know several Isaiah's and only a couple of them are "black." I would say any child could be named these names, regardless of race. However it's important for both parents to agree on the name, so if one of you isn't happy with the other's choices, keep thinking until you have a name you can both agree on. Good Luck.

I know someone with both these names and they are not black. I think isaiah is especially a cute name no matter what the race is, and as for issac, i think that sounds more like a white name. still cute though.

There's honestly no such thing as a "black name". Sure, some communities name children certain names more than others. But I know one Issac and two Isaiahs. One's black, one's white, and one's of mixed race. You should name your child what YOU want. Don't delve too deeply into stereotypes. <3 X

Names aren't black or white or mexican or anything else. They are just names. They may be more commonly associated with certain races but that doesn't make them only for that certain race. And your hubby should be proud to have a child with a name from the bible. My name is Sarah and I love it. And my mom picked it from the bible. I also had a black friend named Sarah. So see names aren't race related unless you choose to see them that way, they are just names.

hey,
ok first i dont believe a name can be tied to any one color or any one race. the only race that anything like this can be tied to is the human race :). actually this question caught my attention because both of my sons have these names. my son isaiah is 9 and isaac is 7. these names do not accent on any racial background that they have. honestly, my husband their father is black and irish, and i am black and cherokee. so if thats the case they should have been named walking tree and flying eagle, or something like that. my son's where given these names because of attributes that we wanted them to have (and they have them) isaiah is very wise and believes in God totally. Isaac is full of laughter, he is also very smart. i actually have a nephew named solomon, and carl, and michael, and johnathan. i also have nephews named tyleik and ta'sean (not black names just ghetto lol) my husbands name is gregory, i have brothers named michael, carl (nicknamed charlie), tyrone, marlon, daniel, martin, and a Godbrother named Ezra. So, these names are NOT and CAN NOT be linked to anyone race, nationality, background, or anything. but if he wants specifics, he should research the biblenames.com site and maybe it would help him out alot. i think that names are important but should not single out one set of people over another. good luck and congratulations.
