I don't know much about stem cell research, but just wanted to let you know that my thoughts are with her.

Wow - I'm so sorry for you and your family member. What kind of procedure did she have done to hear the heartbeat? A heartbeat usually can't be heard before 10 wks unless it's on an ultrasound. I'm not sure about the stem cell research, but I'm guessing the fetus is not usable. Again, I'm very sorry.

Sweetie? Stem Cell research comes from umbilical cord blood, not from miscarried fetuses. In a way, they are tainted because if they weren't, they would be a fetus and not a miscarriage. When a fetus becomes a miscarriage, there is a reason and that reason may be good cause to not want to use that little fetus for anything other than to find out why women have miscarriages. Stem cell research deals with the blood and cells from healthy, newborns who have tons of great stuff in their umbilical cord. I am sorry for your family member. Please give my condolences. By the way, it is already way too late to harvest anything useful from that little baby! (((Sheri))))

The embryo's used in stem cell research are created. You can't use naturally conceived embryos, they have to be created. In the US, the only stem cells used are the ones that already exist in research.
I'm sorry for her and her families loss. And I applaud her for trying to find a positive in this very negative and sad event.
Best of luck to her!
Peace,
Jenn

It is too late to donate to stem cell research. The cells are already to deteriorated. Actually they are dead. I hoghly doubt they would be of any use, but she could ask the doc about it when she goes in. Sorry about her loss.

If the fetus it without a heartbeat, then the cells are starting to deteriorate and are unusable.

No, I don't; However, please have your family member check the baby's heartbeat again. I do not want to give false hope, but this just happened to my cousin, she was devastated. She went to her D and C appt. and insisted on checking again. There was the heart beat. She is now in her sixth month.
I know chances are slim but please advise her to check for a heartbeat again before the procedure. Best wishes.
