Am really at a loss here..am not a lawyer.
And supposedly "blood is thicker than water"??
It should have been put on paper..is there a will ?
Is there recorded proof of the money that he had ? bank account statements etc..
Can you show to a lawyer that you spent time and care for your dying father ..and what about your sister ?
Anyway to prove that she syphoned the money away ?
Make details and record sudden new spendings that she is making..improving the house and stuff like that ?
Did you dad have a computer and could you show emails if such things were spoken about ?
At a loss here..Don't know about the American law system.
I don't think cremation is cheap..not from what I have heard around here anyway.
Can't help but feeling sorry for you. Some families can be really crass I know that. Am dealing with with a really stinky situation myself where common sense just goes out of the window and some people are so greedy and heartless..
But what comes around....

Take it to Judge Judy! Seriously, try a small claims court, or contact a lawyer and ask him/her what their opinion is. It will probably be hard if there was nothing in writing, but that doesn't entitle your sister to snatch up his belongings. She will probably be held responsible for some of the funeral and burial costs.
I'm sorry for your loss. Death can bring out an ugly side in people. I hope it all works out for you.

Its a sad thing that someone would do this. Who ever said there was no way to go after them for this is wrong. You can sue anyone for anything. I just saw a court TV show that someone had done this. The Judge ate their lunch for it. Get a lawyer and sue you sister. Sounds bad but it is not as bad as what she has done. Good luck may Justice be done.

Just have your sister meet with the funeral home and be responsible for the funeral arrangements. If the funeral home is smart, they will require her to pay up front.
This is an example of very poor estate planning.

AAAHHHH OMG!!!! That just made my stomach turn having to read that. I would call around to some attorneys and just try to find out if there is anything you can do about this.
And then go knock the **** out of her for being such a selfish *****.

Go after the assets, and yell at your sister to give your father his wishes !! That is butt rude that your sister did that and is unforgivable. Cremation only costs at most about $2,000. I would kick your sisters ***.

i don't think that's true. out of those assets, the funeral and all unpaid bills must be paid first.
i don't know if i would ever be able to look her in the face again.

If this is a legitimate question then...a lawyer is in need and put it that she will have to pay for it because it was her doing...this will stand up in court. I can't stand it when people r $ hungry!!!!!! Do it......
