I was chopping up vegetables for a stew to put in the crock pot and must have been cutting at a weird angle. I ended up cutting my wrist pretty good. I had to type this with one hand. Should I go to the doctor or will it just heal on its own?

How in the hades are we supposed to know how bad your cut is?
If you cut yourself "pretty good" then you probably need stiches, otherwise you're gonna bleed all over the keyboard.
Wrap it in a towel and keep applying pressure, and get someone to drive you to an Emergency room before you bleed to death.

the wrist is a touchy area b/c your radial artery is located in this area.

if your wrist is spurting blood then call 911 immediately (this means you've cut into the major artery in your arm and risk bleeding out). but chances are you haven't done this if you're able to type on the computer

go to the er if

-you are not able to control the bleeding within 5 minutes (this is after applying pressure the the cut with a clean washcloth/towel).

-you are able to split the cut open and see inside it (if you can spread it open a 1/2 inch or more)

-you are having symptoms of dizziness or faintness

if you don't have any of these symptoms then make an appt within 24 hours to see your dr just to make sure you don't have an infection (the knive you were using could've had bacteria on it)

once you have controlled the bleeding:

-wash your wrist with warm water and mild soap (dove or ivory work best)
-apply a small layer of neosporin to the cut area
-wrap with gauze wrap (you can find this at any local drugstore). secure with medical tape
-change the dressing at least twice a day and try your best to keep it dry
-take ibuprofen for pain (if not allergic). take 200-400mg every 6 hours but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours

I cut my little finger with a knife and it bled for a fair while. I went to the hospital the next day and it was severe but it was good i went as i couldnt move my finger and was in heaps of pain! the wrist would be a worse place to cut so if its bleeding alot and causing throbbing pain etc, i'd recommend going to the hospital emergency department. they can at least see whether its too deep and will need more care than a bandaid! otherwise lay it under the cold water tap then hold a clean cloth on it wiht pressure to help stop the bleeding. if you don't think its severe enough to see a dr, have it wrapped with a guaze and bandage untit it heals, just be careful of getting an infection. hope it gets better soon!

yes you should go see doctor. i found out this my self last fall. was cutting some fabric last fall with an extremely sharp rotary cutting blade. I opted to not see the doctor until the next day. It took nearly 15 min for it to stop bleeding. When I saw the doctor the next aftenoon, 24 hours later, the doctor said that if you are asking this question, it was time to see doctor. I did not want to go to emergency room and did not realize our urgen care clinic was open, so I did not go. I applied pressure and tried to keep wound clean. I have a moderate scar now which my doctor told me to keep rubbing so that it minimizes scar tissue.

apply as much pressure as you can to the cut. Do not lick it or anything. That will just put bacteria on the wound. Apply hydrogen peroxide to it and go to doctor.

You be the judge. Clean the wound with rubbing alcohol immediately and apply a gauze bandage. DO NOT tourniquet your arm (restrict the flow of blood to the cut with a string or similar)

If you are losing a lot of blood (more than 1 quarter cup) get to a doctor immediately. DON'T go to sleep if you are losing blood.

If you do not sterilize the wound with alcohol and handle with care you could develop a serious infection.

If there is no reason for you not to go to a doctor, e.g. if you do not have medical insurance, I strongly advise going just to make sure you're ok.

hands bleed alot.

Get a white towel and wrap it tight. sit down, press it hard for a few minutes (up to 15).

Once the bleeding slows, then slowly pull the towel off and look at it.

Did you cut a vein? Will you have a scar?

You've got to cut the bleeding down enought to evaluate.

I was there before dude, and it wasn't as bad as I thought eventhough blood dripped from my hand to my elbow onto my shorts.

Hands and wrists bleed alot. Be sane, calm down, check it out, wash it off, then decide.

how bad is it? did you try washing it with soap and water and apply pressure on the wound with a clean cloth for about 5 minutes? If you did and it has not stopped bleeding, then go to the doctor quickly but tie the cloth on to the wound so it wouldn't bleed so much.

slicing isn't a reliable thank you to bypass approximately getting an important grownup to hearken to you, pay attention what you could desire to declare or take word. slicing is addictive, i be attentive to I quite have dried blood throughout my palms atm It turns into the restoration all answer to each thing from techniques of severe self injury to bordem. The extra you decrease the bigger your secret turns into and the extra lengths you bypass to, to conceal you slicing. Then there are the scars, or perhaps with what you attempt and do to sidestep it, the occasional one gets contaminated and leaves a great purple welt scar. no longer ordinary to conceal, to sidestep questions approximately it and a few could say its grotesque as properly. jointly as you could desire to diminish an artery you're much less in all probability to ever decrease by a substantial tendon only utilising a razor blade. yet over the years you will collect an number of blades and knifes and so on. So my message is quit it now jointly as you could and only bypass as much as the important grownup which you quite decide to take word of you and hear you and supply them your blades. it would paintings in case you tutor your contemporary scars of as properly. So communicate, do no longer decrease. communicate, communicate and extra communicate be secure, be sage

CALL 911. You have veins in your wrist, so if you cut yourself on a vein. you could die soon! EMTs will know how to handle it. Plus, it's free if they come out there and you don't need to get taken to the hospital.

if you are concerned enough to go online and ask, then go to an urgent care or ER. clean it well with warm, soapy water. put a dry towel or bandage on the wound and keep it elevated.
