Well in 1924 they did have the military ski patrol, but no mention of having to be a officer.

In the early days, equestrian events at the Olympics were military affairs.
Only commissioned officers were allowed to compete in the three-day eventing, and just a few civilians were involved in the showjumping and dressage.

I first thought it was the biathlon, but while the history of the sport speaks of soldiers on skis, no where was it indicated that the athletes were of the military. However in the summer games of 1900 the military rifle shooting was done by military personnel.
