Once you have connected the modem to the routers Internet (WAN) port you need to connect a computer to the router, its easiest if you do the first time by ethernet cable, and go into its setup, usually by typing the IP address of the router in your web browser. Your manufacturer should have provided you with a install quide that will walk you through that.

Then you have to setup the router for the type of broadband connection you have. Since you are using a DSL modem you will configure the router for a PPOE connection and place your ISP username and password into the setup screen so the router can log into your ISP and provide your computers with internet access.

AFter all that you might have to reboot the router and then try to access the internet. If it works then disconnect from the router and try to connect wirelessly.

check the connection from the wall jack to the RJ11 line going into the ADSL modem. connect your PC directly to the ADSL modem and reboot the network.

once you have sync on the modem. go to the command line and run ipconfig /all. then telnet into the default gateway address you will have to provide a username and password just like the web based interface. from here you can enter the PPoE info thus avoided using the software on CD which does nothing except slow down the boot process. also you can change the DHCP server address range to include more clients as the default for many ADSL modems is 1. depending on your network configuration you can use turn on the bridge function of the ADSL router.

once you have the ADSL modem set up you can power down everything. connect the WAN port of the Wi-Fi router to the ADSL modem and your PC to Ethernet connection on the Wi-Fi router. reboot the network allowing the ADSL modem to sync first then pwr up the Wi-Fi router and then the PC.

That's because you are not using a gateway, but a modem. Usually your Internet Service Provider (ISP) should provide you with the details to configure your ADSL modem.

Normally this is done for you while you install the drivers for your ADSL modem. This is how mine works...try re-installing your drivers or contact your ISP.
