Ok. Who EXACTLY does Iraq belong to? That is to say, who owns Iraq? The government isn't stable enough? Ok. Fine. Four years. It's been "FOUR YEARS" and still the situation isn't stable. Soilders, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen are held accountable EVERY single day! EVERYDAY!!!! Where is the accountability on the part of the Iraqi government?! Please don't even get me started!

The current government of Iraq took office on May 20, 2006 following approval by the members of the Iraqi National Assembly. This followed the general election in December 2005. The government succeeded the Iraqi Transitional Government which had continued in office in a caretaker capacity until the new government was agreed.

You raise a great point. If we had done in Iraq what we had done in Germany and Japan, we'd be much closer to having a stable democratic government today. But, much like the binding rules of engagement our troops are operating under, we're having to take the PC route there.

(Although to be fair, we were dealing with terrorist "wolves" in Germany for years after the end of the European war and still finding Japanese in caves intent on fighting the Pacific war until the '70s.)

One can only hope that the Iraqis, for all the bravery they've shown so far, can stand up to the challenge and face down the terrorists and Syrian and Iranian funded fighters.

I feel that it may never be stable enough. When the Iraqi police sees the insurgents they actually will hide. If they are faced with a gun fight, they rather die first. I watched the Military Channel last night they showed the Americana's & the Iraqi's Soldier's in a huge battle that lasted for hours against the insurgents, they not only hid, the American in charge of this long battle actually had to pick-them -up by the neck & they still would not fight.

How do you fight evil?

The coalition forces took out the Iraqi government, and I'm not surprised that it would take more than 4 years to establish a new one. I think some people just believe everything should be done instantly.

Yeah, my husband is a Marine and has been over there. I totally hear you. Soemtimes countries need civil war to figure things out. Hell, America did, and it worked for us!
The longer we stay now the more they are growing to resent our presence. I say, bring the men home and let their country fight it out!
