Take some solace from Socrates: "So long as I draw breath and have my faculties, I shall never stop practising philosophy and exhorting you and elucidating the truth for everyone that I meet...And so... know that I am not going to alter my conduct, not even if I have to die a hundred deaths."
Socrates said this when he was charged with (amongst other things) corrupting the morals of the young men of Athens with his teachings and was facing the death penalty for it; so you could say he was pretty unpopular at the time.
A large number of Athenians denounced Socrates as being foolish, but this was not sufficient to shake him in his convictions (and neither was the death penalty that was imposed on him when he refused to retract his teachings).
I'm not suggesting anything quite so extreme for you, but being prepared to stand up to ridicule denotes and engenders great strength of character.
Think for yourself as far as possible, don't be a herd animal that blindly follows others for fear of censure. Fascism thrived in the middle of the last century in Europe in part because a sufficient number of people in the countries concerned were too worried about others' reactions to state their case, until it became impossible for them to do so without losing everything.

Yes. I think everyone can say yes to this one weather they know they are being ridiculed or not. I like hip-hop music (some of it) and a lot of people just hate that music.

Yes. I generally like unusual things, smells and food and sometimes people at my job who don't get it question me, or give me their opinion when I don't ask for it. Leave me alone and mind your business. If I wanna listen to that song, or if I like the smell of that chemical or if I wanna eat this food with that on top, mind your business! It is NOT affecting you so fall back and keep it moving! Who cares if you don't understand why I did this with my hair, or why I spent MY money on this thing for ME! Why are you so concerned?....WOW, I guess I needed to get that out. Thanks!

My husband hates that I like to mess around on the computer and he gives me crap for it all the time. Yet he can sit his *** in front of the tv watching some bullsh*t game from 1980.
