why are you reformatting it? anyway, based on the specs of your pc it's not bad, what is your hard drive space? and what is your antivirus? it doesn't mean that if its updated all the virus in the whole world is in its definitions... so add more details and email me what seems to be the most problem your having... defragment your computer 3x in a row today... let's see if it will make a difference ok!

first answer mostly wrong disk defrag does nothing to computer memory which is the problem here second defiantly wrong trojans are easy to spot now 3rd answer has no clue.

The real (and correct) answer Your memory uses resources by your computer (anti virus could be a big eater here) 512 mg is now considered bare MINIMUM to run most everything (especially Vista) to see what your memory is actually running hit ctl+atl+del it will pop up either a windowed box (on xp) or on vista a new page with several options the one you want is start task manager. It tells you any apps that are running, but the key is under processes fourth tab over that is what each program you are running on your computer and how much memorty it is currently using. I would remove some of your start up programs (those icons you see on the lower right hand of your screen) see if that helps but even simpler break down and buy another 512 meg of ram thats what you really need the most.

This could be reason:
1. You do not delete History/Cookies etc (IE Explorer)
2. You do not use De-fragment and Disk clean up
3. You do not run anti add ware/spy ware soft
4. You do not run Check Disk
And the finally, you may be running many software which runs at the back. If you know how to turn off Program which run when you start computer then you better stop those you do not want to run when you start computer.
Do this:
Click start:
Locate: Run type the command msconfig
Window will be opened click on Start up
only un checked the programs which you do not need to run otherwise better not to unchecked, if you are not so sure.

Hope this will give you some idea

You might have a trojan, some anti-virus' dont detect trojans. Other than that your computer is pretty good and shouldn't be slow at all just make sure you dont have like 300 processes going or something. Close unnecessary programs. Use Ctrl+alt+delete but be careful on what u close.

Lots of good ans. here. I'd look to see what's in your sys tray (bottom right corner of your screen). Real player etc. can eat up system resources and slow down your computer. Norton antivirus (we don't like it) tends to slow down your pc.
Try downloading absoulte start up at http://www.absolutestartup.com/
It will show you what's in your startup folder, and it will tell you what each program is so you can decide which ones are important and which are safe to disable.

512Mb is not much ram and running lot's of software at once will cause pc to run slow try defragging computer disabling alot of start up program's that you can start by clicking an icon or opening it.

Right-click on your taskbar, select "Task manager" and look to the "processes" tab. How many processes do you have going and do you see a process that uses a lot of CPU and/or memory power?
