A few miles from me-there is a lady that has 2 Dobies--her husband was working one night and she was alone--a man broke in on her and raped her and beat her bad--(she had the Dobies in another part of the house with the door closed--they couldn't get to her)--after the assault-she managed to open the door to the Dobies--the dog's had the man down when the cop's got there!!! He was tore up pretty bad--but survived!! Had they been with her--she would never have been assaulted!!

Dobies are great dogs!! I love them. I used to babysit a little girl who's family had a doberman. She was outside playing, with Frodo (their doggy) nearby and the neighbor's stupid mutt got loose and hopped the fence into their yard. The dog went straight for Alana (their daughter) but Frodo wouldn't have any of that! He beat that dog up pretty good while Alana's mom ran and got her. He only came away with a few scratches too! I hate that they have a bad reputation. They're so wonderful with kids.

I saw a story on Animal Planet about a woman who had a seizure and her rottie (pretty close to a dobie) called 911, barked a lot, then and opened the door for the paramedics!

they are wonderful dogs - ours pulled a toddler out of the pool once, ( yes, his parents should have been watching) not a mark on him, and from then on would never let the little ones near the pool...
