Greetings,
The oldest Zoo that is still open is the Vienna zoo which opened in 1752, It had 35 Elephants at that time. We know that the Romans had animals on display at the Colosseum in Rome. But the oldest written record I know of was when Kublai Khan built the forbidden city in Beijing he added a area where mainly birds but some animals would be placed on display for the public. I think it was around 1264. Also, there are some records of animals being on display and kept at the hanging gardens of Babylon when it was one of the 7 wonders of the world. That would have been around 1500 BC. Hope this helps.
