Country does really work, as there were really no countries in any modern sense:

The Celts, The Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Norse, Romans, Normans

To say that a "Country" colonised Britian is not so accurate. Because the idea of a Nation/State came much later. The Roman empire did conquer Britain and I'm sure some Romans did come to Britian to settle. Also the Angles, Saxons and Jutes of present day Germany settled also, As well as the Vikings. Many Cities in Britain were started by these Conquerer/Colonist. London and Bath were Roman settlements. Towns in Wessex,Essex, & Sussex And that area were settled by Saxons. The Vikings were the builders of York (called Jorvik by the Vikings) . The Vikings also built Dublin in Ireland.

As WolverLini answered, lots of people have invaded Britain, but when Britain has actually been a colony, ie, a subordinate state of a foreign power, the only times I can think of are when we were a colony of Rome and when we were a colony of Denmark under Canute (Cnut, Knut) who was also known as Cnut the Great of Denmark and was king of Norway as well as England.

But that's talking about England really, not Britain. Scotland and Wales are another matter entirely!

The last successful invasion of England occurred in 1066 when the Normans conquered the country having defeated King Harold's English Army at the Battle of Hastings on Senlac Hill next to the town of Battle in Sussex.

The vast majority of the population of the island of Britain are descended from Anglo-Saxons who arrived here in the 5th Century AD. The further north and west you go the greater the number of people of Celtic origin, these arrived in various waves in the 1st Millennium BC, absorbing the earlier Bronze Age and Neolithic peoples..

The Romans brought most of Britain (up to Hadrian's Wall) into their Empire between the 1st and 4th Century AD.

The Normans, who formed the ruling caste after 1066 provided little in demographic terms.
