1 A trial version usually has either full features for a limited period of time or limited features for an unlimited period of time.
2. One year: 1 year FREE trial of CA Anti-Virus

3. No. A file or line in the registry records the original date prevents you from uninstalling and reinstalling to get around the time restriction. You may be able to delete these records by reformatting your drive and reinstalling Windows.
4) For internet security you need a full time antivirus and spyware protection. Almost every internet provider offers a free protection suite.
----------------------------------------------------------
If you follow all the steps below it should prevent future problems. All programs listed are free.
---------------------------------------------------------
Install full time (active) spyware protection. Install only one. Two antivirus programs can cause conflicts.
AVG Antivirus 7.5 Free Edition

or
Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
---------------------------------------------------------
Install Windows Defender (full time spyware protection)
Perform a full scan.
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
You can install a second spyware protection application without problems.
---------------------------------------------------------
Install the following five programs no matter what antivirus and spyware protection you have. Run weekly or at least monthly. You need all five. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection.
Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)

Spybot Search & Destroy (update + immunize + scan)
Do not enable Tea Timer and SDHelper
After installation: update + scan + immunize

http://www.ccleaner.com/
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note if any scanner detects a problem but is unable to remove it, start the computer in safe mode with the internet line disconnected and run a full scan.
In severe cases your system restore files will also be infected. In these cases you will need to turn off system restore to prevent malware hiding in the system restore files and reinfecting the computer during removal or during a future system restore. Turning off system restore deletes the system restore files.
Right click on "my computer"> Properties > System Restore Tab > Check box turn of system restore
After the malware is removed turn on system restore.

1. A trial either comes with unlimited usage but limited features or you get all the features for 15 or 30 days, maybe 60 or 90.
2. I don't know, maybe either 60 or 90.
3. You may not be able to do so, because even if you register as someone else, your computer's registry will still have the entry for the expired version of the program (I downloaded AVG Anti- Spyware 7.5 trial and I tried to download again once it expired. It was still expired when I installed the new copy). They do this to refrain from losing money, because a person could download, download, download, and keep doing so, not having to pay a penny, and they would have the program for a year or so. If you change your registration (give different information, name, e- mail) then you might be able to keep using it.
4. The best internet security suite is Norton Internet Security 2007. The runner- up is McAfee Security Center, which requires you to renew subscriptions, much like a magazine. Go with Norton, you get free updates and the full program for around $70 as opposed to $300 for around 4 years of McAfee.

15 myles is correct for questions 1-3. For question 4, I suggest the following free programs:
Firewall - ZoneAlarm. They have several paid versions, and the free one is the most basic and often hardest to find a link for, but any ZoneAlarm product works very well.
Antivirus - AVG or Avast. I use Avast's free version and like it a lot.
Antispyware - Ad-Aware or Spybot, although in this case a paid program such as SpySweeper will cover you better. If you stick to the free ones, I recommend using both.
Antispam - As far as I know, no program does this really well, especially since spammers are always coming up with new tricks. Stick to heuristics or filters in your email program.
