The wireless router will work exactly like your wired router. The only difference is you dont use a ethernet cable and you need a wireless NIC instead of the Ethernet NIC in each computer you want to connect wirelessly.
Price varies from manufacturer and model so depending on were you buy it the price will vary.
Check out the below link for prices and even some deals.

These days going wireless is pretty painless and simple. I would try D-link router, just my preference. Good range, connection speed, and life for the price. They range in prices but you should be able to pick up a decent one from $50-$100. If you already have braodband cable or dsl, just plug it into the WAN port on the back, and turn it on. Then on your pc's, install a wireless adapter and install drivers. If you leave all settings on the router alone (default) and also on the adapters (default) they are set to DHCP automatically. So when you turn on your pc, it will connect to router and auto configure itself each time. Thats about all there is to it (In simple terms). You can get pretty much anywhere, but I find them cheapest at most big Office stores, Like Office Max or Office Depot. Good luck!

Best Buy and Circuit City or like stores would carry it. Your laptop or desktop will need a wireless card as well. Netgear in my opinion is the best. You'll need a base station. The key is to configure the security WEP keys or access control. Do not leave the default administrator passwords or SSID (the name the router broadcasts) or the default passwords setup. Other than that it is pretty straight forward stuff....good luck.

think of there is a few confusion right here. the only "on the spot" element a pair of on the spot router is that the relationship between router and laptop is done through short-selection radio, incredibly of through a cable. on the spot broadband, although, as already mentioned, is the place you do no longer connect with the exterior worldwide through the telephone line yet incredibly through potential of a radio sign through an antenna. in the adventure that your router connects to the telephone line, as ninety 9% of folk do, the only element you opt for evaluate is whether or no longer you opt for the router - laptop connection to be through the commonplace length of cable or through on the spot, which provides the ability to flow your laptop around.

in regards to installing a wireless network, i used NetGear, and included are simple instructions on how to install it. all you need is to be english literate.
basically you connect the internet line to the router, then configure the router. with NetGear, the configuring part was as simple as clicking on a checkbox, and my house was now a hotspot.
