Put vegetable oil in her feed. Does she get enough salt ? Put a block of iodine salt where its available to her at her leisure .Horses need supplements to help them with things that they don't get in their feed. Ask your vet one bath isn't going to hurt her ans make her lose her hair it's something else and you may not know unless you have a vet look at her. Has there been any mange around or has any other animal had the same sympthons? Good luck

The sheding may be normal this time of year and you brush the horse everyday.
The dry skin can be a number of things, one is brushing!
Horses love to lay in the dirt and scratch their back. So, the dirt dry the skin.
I would start brushing the horse everyday for a begin. Use a rubber curry comb first to break up the heavy dirt. Then a medium brush be fine, follow with a finishing brush. I always use a finish brush on the head to Nuzzle Muzzle (Nose).
Find a good shampoo and wash the horse too may help.
I feel the brushing will work, but, if you already doing this, shampoo with something good.

The season is changing, so shedding is normal, just brush with a soft rubber curry everyday. On a warm day bathe your horse in warm water, to help cleanse pores and loosen more winter hair. If you wash with cold hose water, it will tighten pores and dry the skin even more, and make the winter hair stay in. If your horse has dry skin, you can go to the vet's office and buy a bottle of Epi-Soothe, that soothes dry skin. Also mane and tail from wal-mart in the pet asile will work good too, but I'd suggest giving a bath in mane and tail first to get rid of the dirt, then epi-soothe, to soothe the skin. Use a sweat scraper to get off all excess water then use a few towels to rub the horse dry. leaving water sitting on a horse also drys out the skin.

There is some moisturizing shampoo you can get for horses at local tack shops that can greatly help with that. It's most likely the change in weather... But you should check up and see if it's Rain Rot. Which is a condition where their skin gets kind of flaky in areas and it's from being damp. For example: If their blanket gets wet and they wear it around-- It's a type of fungus: But it's not that serious. You can put iodine or human triple antibiotic ointment on it and it'll clear up soon =)

It's the weather change. You know you CAN bathe your horse on a nice sunny day. They really like the rub down..and get the Mane and Tail shampoo from wal-mart.

It could be the seasons and check at Co-op or Tsc, they have alot of different things for that and if it is spotty try some antibiotic ointment and before it gets worse you may want to check with a vet.
