80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

okay the way I see it is that we are here to learn as much as we can and to help any one we can. I do not think the world evolved to the point that we are at all by itself. So there is a higher being, call it God if you like that has us here for a reason. I also think that the universe is so big that it is beyond human comprehension and therefore we are but a minute part of the whole scheme, think of that the next time you feel important. Every thing is connected though so you are a link in the chain in some way. I wonder if we ever find all of this out.

Ok, Thats 2 questions. first the meaning of life. The purpose of Life is reprocreation i.e. reproduction. To reproduce. But to ask the meaning of life is to personalize the question. I am meant for something different than what you were meant for. Could Mozart perform brain surgery? Could Bob Ross perform a symphany? Everyones Meaning is different. For instance, The eskimo lives/lived in an igloo. The New Yorker lives in a skyscraper. Two very different realities. To very different Meanings of Life.
Second question is there a God?
Well, anything you worship is your God. The question isn't is there a God, but where is that God taking you when you die, and what will he do for you while you are alive... Will he love and care for you? Wink you out of exsistance, or will your God be made of paper stone or rock?

Evolution.
to become as perfect as whatever made us.
i agree with the narrow minded thought of yours...christians and other organized religion like that really tries to put life in a neat little box with a big pretty bow (or a man on a cross, with stakes through his hands and feet) i dont disagree with some of the teachings that Christ represented.
...Real life in reality is hard..did you ever notice that the more you want something..the more difficult the path becomes...that forces of nature push against you so that you truly 'work' and strive for your desired result..??
...the soul is here to experience in this life time what it needs ( this is why life is so diverse...someone is rich why the other poor, one is sick, while the other is the pillar of strength and well being) so that the soul is no longer splintered and it can heal to join what ever made us...it may take a 100 thousand lifetimes to fulfill the souls journey...but the soul can not, not evolve...
..i believe in a universal spirit...for people, in my opinion, to close their minds because some guys back in the day wanted to control woman, money, & sexuality is, to me, closed minded.
we can't comprehend in our tiny little exsistence the vastness of what that universal power is capable of....we certainly didnt put ourselves here, nor the planets, universe, etc....
some power did that...why box it all up ? and put it in a great story book and call it the bible? and say that if you dont believe your gonna burn in hell....i dont know about you but if there is a christ and he loves all of humanity and sacraficed himself on the cross for all of our sins...nobody's going to any kind of hell...Christ already lived it for us....
besides most 'christians' think that their way is the ONLY way...why can't they be joyous that humans have faith and believe in something...rather than nothing...i try not to knock organized religious groups for their belief systems...and i never try to cram down thier throats my beliefs...if we all do believe in a 'god' or 'jesus' or 'buddha' or 'mohomed' , is there really a difference..we are all seeking the same thing arent we?
...but if organized religion would think more along those lines...we could probably practice whatever religious, or non-religious beliefs and not be judge... we could all be free...i could go on all night on this subject....so yes there is a god and the meaning is Love, universally and especially of self, unconditionally....so that we can join that power which loves us all...equally...no matter if we are christian jewish catholic buddhist muslim athiest, or agnostic.....

Life only means what we want it to mean. We are born, we evolve into adults who bear more children who evolve and make more children and each generation changes.
It doesn't really mean anything except what we want it to mean...life is what happens when you're busy doing other things. If you want it to have purpose, you must create it.
Kate Wolfe says it best...
"I'd like to find a way to make you happy some way.
But that would be a lie, don't you know it?
Find what it is that you really care about
And live a life that shows it."

Besides being a great Monty Python movie...who could ever possibly answer these questions? Perhaps there is no meaning, or perhaps there IS.... All the speculation and conjecture is really meaningless. Maybe the answer is at the 'end of the line'. I for one really hope that there IS some purpose for us being here, especially seeing that we aren't here for very long..

sorry, I was going to give you a nice answer, but I know you would consider me a narrow minded Christian, and it wasn't even going to be about God, you lose.

i just asked the same question. i dint think there is a answer. to me it must mean do nobody wrong while at the same time do what make you happy.
your second question might be harder to grasp and understand than your first . as a non practicing catholic i just think church is in your heart .its what you believe
and if it is real surly the bible has inaccuracies so we dint know the whole truth or exact truth know what i,m saying

the meaning of life is what you want to give it.
what is this? Well, I mean that the meaning of my life is getting what I want, approaching every opportunity that it gives me and share my poor knowledge to people, saying them what I think about my own philosophy and why I defend my viewpoints. Sharing smiles, giving help, and hating what I think it deserves to be...
The meaning of live is just living!!!!
I hope you can understand what I mean...
