My favorite hands down is Jedediah Smith Redwoods state park. this place by crescent city near the oregon border looks like something out of jurassic park. A great place to hike. I went on a 12 mile hike here and it was breathtaking. But, you can also head to the coast as well so you have options. Finally, within 20-30 miles are Redwood national park and Prarie Creek Redwoods state park, so you have 3-4 gorgeous parks all within a few miles of each other. There are wild elk here as well.

Best one I have been to is Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe.
