I have nothing against the south. I think that southerners put too much emphasis on the fact that they are from the south. Only southerners care that they are from the south.
Most of the southerners I meet need to get over the fact that the union won the civil war, and stop correcting people by saying "war of northern agression". It was a long time ago. I don't understand how a southerner could call a northerner "Yankee" and mean it as an insult.
I freely admit that I don't know a lot about the south, but I am always amazed to hear the "facts" about northerners that I hear from southerners.
I sound like a foriegner talking about Americans, but your quote proves that southerners need to get over themselves.

I hate telling people where I am from.. all they think of is country music, rednecks, people with bad accents and poor English, and whether if you are a country girl/boy, and I dont know what else. They all think im from another country or state until I tell them where I was born/raised and its embarrasing to see the reactions. And its not like that everywhere its changing. my mom is from a big city and moved there to go to college so thats how I ended up there. I dont even have to tell u what state it is you can probably guess it (TN). I glad I moved its more of my style where I am now.

Wha...I'm southern and I've never heard that phrase. I think southerners are just as good as everybody else. We're not hicks or anything.

It really depends on what you mean. I'm a Yankee by birth, but lived in the south for 15 years.

I have 10,000-plus years of roots in the Southeast. "Southern" is a new thing to a Cherokee gal.
