i own a shop, and it is pretty hard on them because of the amount of air they will pull back in,also when your driving it,it will pull air back in every time you let up on it,and it has been known to warp a lot of valves before,id try and cap them with something, because it could get a few valves, its a big chance to take,id think this one through before i did it,good luck with it man.

As to sucking cold air back into the hot heads and warping the valve, this can happen if the headers are short or the engine "back cycles" or "runs on" but running with open headers is bad for the engine as it reduces the back pressure which your engine is designed to have to run properly. It may also be illegal in many areas because of noise.

Here's the trick. Take an old sock and stuff it with cloth. It must be tight enough to seal off outside air. You'll do fine. We transported a blacktop modified as soon as it was tied down and the headers were always plugged for the ride.

You may want to double check your jetting by reading the very base of the insulators after an open header run. Open headers cause lean mixtures with off the shelf carburetors. the insulator bases must look slightly tan and you'll know your mixture is about right.

If the plugs are white drop 2 jet sizes on the primaries and secondaries.

You will burn your exhaust valves and possibly seize the engine. You need the back-pressure provided by the exhaust system. Why drive? You're not going far enough to get up to operating temperature and will sludge up you oil and cause excess wear on all moving parts.

when you shut it off put a clean rag in the collector and this will stop cold air from reaching valves

pick up a summit catalog and buy your self a set of purple Horny's, the bolt right to your headers they are about 2ft. long they will solve the problem and don't cut back on the sound to much
