I didn't put this question in the "Science" category for a reason.

darkness is the opposite of light. It's also evil, ignorance, hate and enlightenment.

Darkness...... Even I am curios about it.
It is the Satan's resting place. The best of the thoughts against an athority ( God or good or whatever u call it ) can come from the darkness.
I see it as a power that compells u to make ur way through the paths full of light.
It is that unknown part whivh we fear is wrong.
It is a surprise which we can make no guess about.
I think it has same to offer as light only called bad because no one knows what really it is.

Darkness, any which way you want to approach the subject comes down to the absence of light. Psychologically is the absence of love. This is not a contradiction, it is simply one of the descriptions which apply to this word. Love is energy, creative energy which creates worlds. Negative emotion is resistance to it and the reason for all our troubles.
You flip on your light switch or open the current and you get energy flowing. Turn it off and you put up resistance to the flow and the apparent result is something we call darkness, which does not have real existence.

Darkness is unknowingness.

To know the light, go in the dark with a light.
To know the darkness, go in the dark without light
Without sight;
And know too that the darkness blooms and sings
And travels on dark feet with dark wings.

In other words...its okay not to know everything. To be at peace with not knowing is a great feeling...its great to not be afraid of the dark.

I want to add this riddle...

Can a person see further in the daytime or in the night time?

(Most people say day time...WRONG!)

In the darkness, you can see millions of lightyears away to distant stars. In the daylight you can only see a couple billion miles to the nearest star, our own sun. Lightness blinds people to truth...Darkness opens a person's eyes to infinity!

Darkness exists wherever light does not. Light always defeats darkness. The sun rises; darkness is vanquished, relegated to mere shadows. Only when the sun sets is darkness able to exist again in large amounts. When light decides to emerge, darkness must flee, for it is no match. Even a flickering candle casts away the darkness from itself.

May God bless you.

Darkness gives meaning to the concept/idea of Light. Without Darkness, Light is not understood.

Darkness is the absence of light. It exists naturally in some places, such as caves, and geographical formations. Light is the sunrise, and darkness comes with the sunset. It can be used in art for effect, and shadows are referred to. In some cases, darkness can be shade. (Light is a different topic, and I am staying with yours, thank you)

It is the the start of light; the most frustrating thing about darkness is that it does not exist of itself... it's the other side, a shadow, a weak alternative that lasts for a time.

Darkness is opposite of light. Darkness can be gloomy. Darkness is without knowledge. Darkness is when there is no light both in a physical and spiritual sense. Darkness has no hope of what light can bring.

It might mean I forgot to pay the electric bill...

But seriously, that's an interesting question: How DO we "see" nothing?

Also: How do we see? How do brains process light and vision...? Perhaps darkness is our brains taking a rest...
