It takes me at least an hour or more.

You and I have this in common. Even if I'm completely exhausted I still toss and turn for an hour or more. It's like I can't get my darn brain to just shut off and let me be. If I'm only a little tired - forget it! I'll roll around for HOURS. I've tried meditation, acupuncture, this, that, and the next thing. I've tried deep breathing exersizes, visualization, reading. Sleeping pills work nicely, but I take those about once every three years or so. Sometimes I get a really nasty bout of insomnia and I litereally don't sleep all night. It's awful. But the pills, can't remember what they're called, only last about 4-5 hours so I can still take one at like 2am and wake up okay.

I've taken to keeping a notebook and pencil by the bed. I usually pop in a movie or put on the music channel and try to write some poetry or a letter to someone or lists of things that require my attention at some point (get groceries, take kids to dentist, pay Visa bill, slowly poison husband, call a plumber, take sweater to dry cleaner's, etc).

It's a blessing and a curse all at the same time. Da Vinci apparently slept like 20 minutes evbery 2-3 hours. He felt sleep was a waste of time.

And I really HATE these people who can fall asleep in like 15 minutes. What's up with that??? Not bloody fair, I tell ya!

I've always been really fast to fall asleep. I'm knocked right out within 5 minutes of hitting the sheets!

And I don't wake up unless there's a baby in the house. Any other time you could be screaming in my ear and I won't wake!

Have you tried listening to music or having the tv on while trying to go bed? the voices and music can help people go to sleep.
Or elevating your feet with a couple pillows.
Make sure you go to the washroom first so that you don't have to get up just as you're about to sleep.
Try not to eat before bed as it can make you uncomfortable.
Also new pillows can do wonders! Plus they should be replaced every 3 months anyway.

Have you tried new laundry detergent? there's new soothing and relaxing ones which can help you sleep faster.

I know you weren't asking for help but taking an hour to fall asleep must really be horrible.
