Ok this may sound odd but my ex-husband didn't allow our kids to color eggs for Easter or hunt eggs. Since he is gone finally I want to do this this year for my 2 year old and 4 1/2 year old. Any suggestions??? Thanks! This will be a first!

My son is not quite 3 and he helped color eggs with me this year. He accidently dropped one and cracked another, but I just boiled more.

It worked better when I let him help hold the spoon with which we were dropping the eggs into the cups of water and food coloring. Make sure the cups aren't too full so the hot water doesn't splash and burn. About 2/3 is okay. And spread newspaper over the area. Let them pick what colors to do next.

That's about it. The spoons work really well. We had fun (although he lost interest after the first 4 or so... short attention span).

You can do it with them now as long as you do it with them and dont let them do it them selves or else you will have a big mess.

My little cousin is 2 1/2 years old and I am coloring eggs with him this weekend as well as setting up and egg hunt for him.

Also, like the other girl said about the crayon, dont use colors, use white. You use the white crayon to draw what ever you want on the egg and after it is dyed the white shows through and it looks so nice. The colors dont look as nice as the white does. Good luck.

Quite honestly, they're a little young yet. But, if you really want to do it, get a piece of foam, lay it outdoors on a table, precook the hard boiled eggs, and have the egg dye in large plastic cups. Then have the kids do one egg at a time. Any mess will take place outside and not in the house. Good luck and have fun.

Its such a great time to be coloring eggs with so many different ways to dye them but I would get a basic dye kit and some color crayons your kids will probably just dye a few but supervise them and let them use there creative process( My kids always enjoyed the color crayons because they could write ther name or draw a flower put it in the dye and the crayon would show through the dye)but the best advise I could give is let them play and supervise them enjoy and Happy Easter!

i began to dye eater eggs when i was two years old. make sure that they have a paint shirt on so it will not get all over them. keep the stuff at their level so they can easily reach it, and use plastic cups for the dye so if it falls over it will not break. make sure the surface you are using is completly covered in old newspaper, use the egg cartons for the eggs to dry in and remember to have a lot of fun!!!

As long as you help them they are plenty old enough! I plan on having my 2 year old color eggs this year! Good luck, hope they don't make too big of a mess!
