Words that create imagery are words that are beautiful, graceful and have an emotional/logical impact on the reader.
Pleasure - Bliss
Peace - Serenity
Luck - Serendipity
Pain - Agony
"Amy wandered down the beach, with the sand shifting between her toes, and the sound of the waves gently washing ashore. The bliss carried her thoughts away as she watched the sunset. She soaked in the serenity of her surroundings, and thought of how serendipitous it all was to avoid the agony of leaving this paradise and returning to her everyday life."
These are just a few examples, you can use a word processor like Microsoft Excel and they have a thesaurus which helps tweak the imagination. Also besides just catchy words try to imagine what you want it to look like if it were real, the smells, the sounds, the color of the rock or the amount of light. Also try to imagine the the way the boy feels and express his anguish, terror and despair. Then try to work those things into your writing, doing this in poetry is much harder than in a novel of course but all the emotions, and scenery you work into it the more the reader has to imagine and empathize with.
I hope this was helpful good luck on the writing it sounds like a great basis to write from.
(Edit)
I had to add that despite its lack of tact and its obvious sarcasm the imagery that tethys (the person to answer directly below me) was able to convey was quite good.
