It seems to me that all his views are that of a democrat.

Two reasons. First, New York Republicans (and most Republicans in the Northeast) resemble Democrats in the rest of the nation. So, it shouldn't be a surprise that Giuliani is similar in many views to Democrats. However, I heard him talking about the "flat tax" yesterday, and that is definitely NOT a Democrat issue.

Secondly, the meaning of Republican under George W. Bush has become somewhat blurry. Most of us who thought of ourselves as Republicans before Bush are now a little uncertain whether we still fit there. While I don't support Giuliani myself, I can understand his effort to redefine the Republican Party. I hope he doesn't succeed, but I'm not too happy with what Republican means now either.

He's a New York City Republican, so he's used to having to deal with a real lot of people in a very big city. That city is all about making things work for people: they got to live and rent and get to work and shop and go to school and have parks and not have pot holes, etc. All the people things, so mayors of that city tend to look a lot like Democrats.

I think you need to look at all his views especially on foreign policy, crime, and welfare reform at least. Not every politician toes every issue fully as the general media wants to portray that party's platform. The same question can be asked about Joe Lieberman on the Dem side or even Evan Byah.

Because hes fiscally conservative and believes in large military expenditures, both traditional republican stances. Its more accurate to call Guiliani a "moderate republican" than a democrat.

Afterall, isn't being a republican more than just gay marriage and abortion?

Well, since he doesn't want to tax us into oblivion to pay for larger and larger government, that makes him a Republican.
