some english words can't be translated in tagalog or has no exact counterpart... hello in tagalog has lots of meanings... can be oi!, oist!, hoy or kumusta which is the common meaning of it...but if you will look at it...it's all just the same wether you will use the word "hello" in answering a phone or greeting someone...besides it has the same purpose and that is actually to greet (^_^)

It depends on the image you want to portray. If your Dad knows Bob from a professional setting, it really adds to the impact if you can pick up the phone and immediately let them know you know who you are talking to. It is very professional. If Bob is a friend, then it gives the appearance of being close to the person you are talking to due to use of the person's name. A person's name is a very powerful thing, when you use it in conversation more then people tend to like you better. In a really casual phone call or setting, using a person's name becomes less common as it is no longer really necessary. However, it won't really ever hurt to say "Hello" since under most circumstances the caller in understood to be the one that must present their name first. Beating the caller to it and already knowing their name will just improve the situation more.

Well I was always told that we just say hello. But there are some words in tagalog that mean hello. One would be Taupo. It means both Hail and Hello. So you can use Taupo in answering the phone in tagalog. I greet alot of filipino nuns that and they say it back so I am sure 'Taupo' is a way to say hello in tagalog. I hope this answers this question.

We simply use "helo" in answering phone calls. Or diretsong sinasabing "magandang umaga/hapon or gabi po, ano po ang maipaglilingkod ko sa inyo"
