Great Danes are sweet and lovable and great dogs to have with kids and babies. They are also very protective dogs but themselves are just babies (I grew up with 2 Danes). The downside is that they do have a very short life-span.
Terriers are cute and very hyper and require quite a bit of exercise and attention. But their life-span is much longer than a Dane.
I just love all dogs. I have 2 German Shepards...Molsen and Miller!

I had a Great Dane.... a brindle, female. She was the most amazing, loving, somewhat HUGE dog! They are great with kids, have amazing dispositions.
The only negative about Great Danes is that they do not live all that long.... and they crap piles the size of small cars!
Terriers are whiny annoying little dogs.

Terrier for my back yard. I just can't imagine the effort with a great dane.

Lets face it - imagine cleaning up a crap from a great dane - no poop a scoops there! - you need a JCB!! ....kissing a terrier ( i speak from experience ) is a delight :D lovely squirmy wiggly wet kisses - up your nose and in your ears if your not quick enough to grab them - a GD however would leave you covered in gob b goo...urgh. :( Lifespan - much better for a terrier - Costs - terriers cheaper long term as GD can suffer multiple health problems with bad backs - weak knees etc. Terriers are tough as old boots - and bed time - you can get dozens of Terriers in your bed ( yeh!) but only ONE Great dane ( boo!) - so NO competition :D For me TERRIERS WIN :D
