Both Billy Batson and his sister, Mary, said "SHAZAM!" to become Captain Marvel and Mary Marvel, while their friend, lame newsboy Freddy Freeman said "CAPTAIN MARVEL!" to become Captain Marvel, Jr. (Which made him one of the few superheroes that couldn't introduce himself, as doing so would change him back into Freddy.)
SHAZAM is the name of the wizard that gave the trio their powers, and is also an anagram.
Solomon -- Wisdom
Hercules --Strength
Atlas -- Stanama
Zeus -- Power (which, according to Cap in one story, doubles his other powers.)
Achilles -- Courage
Mercury -- Speed (and, by extention, Flight)
Mary's was orginally from another set of characters:
S for Selena for grace
H for Hippolyta for strength
A for Ariadne for skill
Z for Zephyrus for fleetness (and flight)
A for Aurora for beauty
M for Minerva for wisdom
All female, except for Zephyrus.
