To ccp - yes, I have that Fairyopolis book, and I think it is wonderful...one of my favorites to look at and read all the little notes and things in it.

However, I don't scrapbook myself. I take way too many pictures and like way too many of them to have time to even begin scrapbooking them. I'd have tons of scrapbooks if I did and don't have room for all of that. I'm a fairly organized person so I like to keep all of my pictures that go together with each other so it would either be scrapbook them all or none.

I think it's really fun, it's a great way to spend a snowy, rainy or lazy day, and a perfect way to organize and showcase your pictures. Also holds memories. It's great to do with friends or your family.
I can't count the number of snowy or cold nights lately that i've snuggled into some PJs and stayed in to do a few scrapbook pages while I watch a movie or tv and have a nice cup of tea.

I really like to look at scrapbooks that are beautifully done, and I don't think preserving your own or someone else's important papers and pictures is ever a bad idea. But I must admit, even though the scrapbooks with one or two pictures on a page look beautiful, I can't afford to devote that much space to pretty arrangement. I try to maintain a balance between what pleases the eye and what is the best use of space--otherwise I'd end up with dozens of scrapbooks. And the decorations that are hand-drawn or hand-annotated really appeal to me. Have you seen the Dragonology, Egyptology, Fairyopolis, etc. books that are made to look like scrapbooks? That's a format I'd like to imitate, if I can get creative enough to figure out how to do it with our family memorabilia.

Scrapbooking is a hobby and one that's gaining popularity all the time. If it's something you like doing, then it's certainly not a waste of time or money.
Some people of course would see making a Scrapbook as incredibly boring but it is apparently one of the fastest growing craft activities!
It is not always the cheapest of hobbies (in fact 75% of scrapbookers are thought to spend over $500 a year on their hobby) but it is getting cheaper. Digital scrapbooking in particular has removed the need large expenditure but still allows for spectacular results.
There are some excellent free courses available in digital scrapbooking if you want to know more.

I look at it this way, yes it is expensive at times, but well worth it in the end. Scrapbooking is what you make it. It doesn't have to be elaborate like you see in all the magazines, you can just use cardstock and stickers and a pen and make it your own and that is fairly inexpensive.
I look back at pictures of me when I was little and don't know the story behind some of them because I was too young to remember what they are about. I do it because I want my son to know the stories behind the pictures. What his life as a child was like when he is older.
So I think that is it worth it. His children will hopefully get to see the scrapbooks also and know what his grandparents, great-grandparents and even their great-great-grandparents were like.

Totally cool! I love it! It is a unique way to add a personal touch for future generations to look at. Something they will cherrish. A small piece of oneself left for others to see. You can save money on the tools and products for it as well. One way is to scarpbook with friends and share what you have to save on money. Another way is not to shop in craft stores but discount stores and garage sales. I can't tell you how many garage sales I have gotten items from because someone went and spent 2 or 3 hundred dollars on stuff and never scrapbooked. You are either a scrapbooker or you are not. It isn't for everyone. But, i love it. I have more fun doing it and I know my kdis will love to look at the books when I am gone.

I'd go with both. It's fun to decorate your photos, and some stuff can be really creative and really accent your photography. On the other hand, alot of the materials can be really expensive and it may take alot of practice before learning how to make really incredible stuff.
I save my money and time by only scrapbooking things that are really important to me (i.e. gifts for friends/family, vacations, graduations, etc.) and rarely do I do an entire scrapbook. Mostly just pics to hang up on their own.

I feel it's a waste of resources including time and money.
My family has LOADS of photos and my mom likes to have them in albums. Her albums have picture rows and below each picture is a small card with three lines on it for notes if you want to make a note about the picture. To me, this is SO nice! You can organize and identify your photos without cutting or destroying them, there are none of the stupid stickers/paper/cutouts to detract from the memories and I can pass them on to my kids without worrying about all the **** we glued in there falling out or fading or whatever. I feel like the scarpbooking element takes a lot away from the actual pictures. I want to remember the Canadian Rockies 2006 as the Canadian Rockies, not as a picture on a blue dotted page with some stick-ons of Canadian flags and junk. I think it's juvenile and tacky.
However scrapbooking is all the rage... But then again, it's easy so everyone wants to do it. They basically do it for you by selling kits for occasions. Wow, now THAT is creative!!!

Granny gave me and my brothers a scrapbook and a photo album each about 20 yrs ago. But my dad's house burned down about ten years ago and he didn't bother to grab them on the way out the door. I wish I still had them today.
I don't think its a waste of anything. There were a lot of fond memories in there.

Scrapbooking is a GREAT hobby and a wonderful investment!! Yes, it can be expensive... but when you look back in 30 years at those pictures and memories... it makes it all worth it! Those types of things can be passed on for generations and generations!
