Stolen horses happen all the time where I used to board my horeses. Part reason I moved them.
I had this one guy constantly make comments about my mare (who was in foal at the time) how it would be a shame for her to wind up missing and then being brought back with out a foal. Who would say such a thing randomly? Especially from someone who kept constantly asking if I would sell her or the foal ($4,000 for the foal and not even born yet!) craziness.
Anyways, we had a few situations where we would have horses run into our stables and no stables would claim they know the horse. The Animal Rescue (Shelter) would come and pick up the horses for futher investigation. We had one that foaled, and when we found the foal, it was on the edge of dying as the person who stole the horse, for the foal, had no clue how to even care for a horse.
We had another who teens took out to joyride, turn the horse loose that ran into traffic and got hit...horse was put down.
People don't respect animals enough I believe.
I recommend calling the animal health department in your community and allow them to take care of the situation. The fliers can stay up and place contact information for where the horse will be.

I had a donkey show up like that, here's everything legal you have to do before you can sell it
1- you have it covered, put up signs, make sure they are on corners, feed stores, gas stations, grocery stores, and such
2-don't post pictures, any hobo wanting a free horse could come and claim it, then they get the money and who knows where the poor horse ends up. (slaughter?) make the person describe the horse, and wait to see if they mention a foal
3- tell local police stations, rescue organizations, vet's clinics, but be sure to tell them to say "call to identify"
4-put an add in the paper here's what I put " Found- Donkey between Fishmarket and Walker Rd. Call to identify"(obviously you will want to change it up! lol)
5-keep an eye out in the lost sections
6-After a month the animal is legally yours to do with what you wish, sell it, keep it, sell the foal, keep the mare or vice versa.
No one ever claimed the donkey, so about 8 months later we are now looking to sell him. Want a donkey? lol, JK good luck, and smart of your dad to notice. I'd bet the mare wandered off looking for a separate place to give birth and got out. My mare always gets out but always stays in the yard. Also, you may ask 'would be owners' if they have a picture of the mare, and possibly papers, even coggins papers describing the mare.

Four different sponsor shoppes handle horse place for this situation. Decide if you even want to own it. A good farm with barns for horses is all you need for a reference. Two, if
you decide to adopt and help, not to manage alone then go
to the akc. kennel. The polo, racing, show horse clubs have
lots of groomers, and trainers that take lessons and can provide free service by coincidence that you join membership. The duties are easy, and informative, and when
you learn enough you will have a riding club opportunity. I
truly believe in these miracles, over 20 of my neighbors have had registers at my farm of wild horses and now they
ride on teams, and for plenty of fun. The basic time is two
people child and adult about 8 hours a week should do.

Thats really great that you looked for the foal-- your dad sounds like a smart man! Try contacting a local humane society, NOT the pound. There are probably a lot of equine rescues in or around your area. Where are you located? I could help you!
Chances are the horse wandered pretty far, post signs every where and if not make sure you get it to a good home or equine rescue.
Good Luck: If you need any more help you can contact my equine help hotline by adding Equine Help 101 to your buddy list for prompt answers or advice to any horse questions you have!

well maybe the horse areo ne those wild horese that doesnt got any homes or owner that does own it. f you cant afford keeping the horse then you should ask somebody who does live larger lands with alot of green grasses and also own others pet horses like a farm thats live or even live a miles away where youre house at . maybe you can ask somebody who willin take care the horse and willin allow keep it in their own farm land . you should put for sale and anybody who does want buy the horse from youguys can able come by and chekc the horse out. if nobody comes then you should call the veterinarian clinic center and tell them that if they know anybody who does take care of un wanted horses and do sell the horses to new owners .if they do that kind of job then you can take the horse there so that they can take care of it and feed it with right foods . but for now, you should gave carrots and long grasses that you do got in youre yard gave it to the horse to eat . and you should also pour water to a mentel . bucket and gave it to the horse . you should try be put a rope over the horse head dont tight it so tied just make a losse and try if it will walk with you and if you do have a safe place to keep the horse for one night and you should use a old basket to keep it warm for the night.

Alway love meeting a new horse owner.
My brother had this happen with a cow and she gave birth. No one ever claimed her and he said for a free cow she was a money maker.
You may run it in the Classified as a free horse, someone will take it.
I would watch the paper too just in case the owner looking. Most will reimburse you for the feed.
I not even know how many hunting dogs crashed at my place. I call the number on their tag and the owner come and get. I not worry about the feed as it always out. Got a lot of deer meat though.

Put ads in you local newspaper and super markets places people go often . If you can't take care of it yourself call the humane society and ask them if they'll come take them. Maybe ask your police or sheriffs dept. if they had any calls about a lost horse maybe the person whom lost it doesn't even know it's gone yet. What about your local stables and the vets they may even know the horse. Your lucky not many people find hosers noone claims. Good luck ps you can charge whoever claims the horse for the care you've given it while in your care there may even be a reward for the horse .Give it awhile and see what turns up.

Have you contacted large animal veterinarians in your area? Even if they don't recognize the horse as a patient, they would likely be able to tell you who to call. There are probably stables/horse owners in your area who would be willing to house and care for a horse and foal in this situation until the owner was located. Either that or contact animal control and maybe they can help you out.

you, know, we had two horses show up in our field with our own horses one time and we kept them for a month and no one came for them and we ended up giving them to some folks who could take care of them but didn't have the extra money at one time to go out and buy a horse. make sure if any one claims them or tries to claim that they are actuallly their animals and they are not lying. Try putting an ad in at the local pet store or feed supply like Co-op or TSC. If you lived close I would take them. I know how much it costs to take care of horses. But it is really great to hear that they are nice people like you and your dad out there willing to do the right thing and help out that mare and her foal.

call the Vet or the SPCA to come and pick up the horse. If you give it to the SPCA you can be sure it will be taken care of and have a happy home!
if you dont do anything soon it will have no place to live nd become puppy chow
