Well, I am a Gypsy (Romani). One guess as to whether or not I have been made fun of for it. "Pikey", "gypo", "yer mama and pappa were brother and sister", "theiving Gypsy", "filthy Gypsy", "didn't they kill you all in the gas chambers?", and so on and so forth, yah-de-dah.

What do I do? Nothing, usually, but a raised eyebrow and a sad shake of the head. Firstly, if they get a rise out of me, they win. Secondly, what would satisfy ME would put me in jail. The police would frown upon me decking them with a size 14 to the temple of their heads. That also would not do a thing for the NEXT bigot who happened along. Bigot kicking could become tiring.

Luckily, at 6'2" and with extensive martial arts training, bigots do not seem to want to start anything with me physically... usually. The martial arts has come in handy, however.

If they are educatable, I try to educate them about the Roma. If not, I just chalk it up to "small brain" syndrome, shake my head, and walk off.

Ok, I might have some fun when they ask me to read their palms. I say "ok, hand it here". Then I feed them the largest pile of bullpucky you can imagine, point to a spot on their palm, and say... "and THERE is where it says that you are an idiot for thinking I can read your palm because I am a Gypsy". I have similar things for fortune telling requests.

:)

Yeah, someone called me the n word. I forget what I said to him, but most likely it was something intelligent as opposed to just shouting out insults in return.

And one of my classmates in middle school said that there was someone wrong with my nose because it wasn't the same shape as hers and the other White kids. Hhhmmm, probably because I'm not White. Then she pointed out a kid who wasn't White, that had a long, thin nose. Obviously this was her proof that it didn't matter if I wasn't White, my nose is not good enough. It's kinda funny now. I'm just glad I was usually in a good mood at school so that I didn't crack her fragile, little nose ; )

2fine4u: I had the same annoying nickname, though I've never heard the "damn near white" part before. That's kinda funny. Also, "redbone" "half-breed" and "house slave." Why do I keep laughing? Probably because it doesn't hurt me anymore.

I don't recall anyone making fun of my race, not infront of me anyway. But if I were in a situation where it was obvious they were making fun of my race or me then heck yeah I would stand up for myself and give as good as I get, there is no room in my life for people like that.

Yes, some nut case( He was a member of the K.K.K.) was going to burn a cross in my front yard, I am 1/4 Cherokee and & 1/2 Jew & 1/2 White & I look it.He was a neighbor and thought he being a light skinned white man he was better than me and my sons. He was teaching his sons they were better. I never have figured out what skin color has to do with being superior.I just told him to get out of my yard or I was calling the Police and he left. One of his boys did beat up one of my sons though and they were several years older than my sons.

Yea they have and I'm the type of person who pretends like nothing bothers them, then goes off alone and cries or gets depressed about it so I didn't do anything when it happened. It would've been pointless do anything since some people just like being cruel and ignorant.

Yes, they called me light, bright, damn near white. I have been called the N word. The light bright thing, I did not do anything about. When I was called the N word, I lept in all claws, and tried to yank all her hair out. It was not right and if I had it to do over again I wouldn't.....well maybe I wouldn't
