Good question. I sometimes hate to suffer small talk, or talk just for the sake of talking, i.e... because someone is feeling uncomfortable about the silence.
It is okay to say nothing and yes sometimes it definitely is preferred. Other times I like chat to a degree and too it also depends on who it is I am interacting with. It seems I don't mind blabbing here..lol

I think so. I'm almost to the point where I find silence to be respectable and mature-as if it is more of a courtesy to just not bother people unless it is something really point specific.
I think I feel this way because I have has the same BS conversation over and over for years. It's always the weather, restaurants, work gossip, movies, TV shows or sports. It gets repetitive.
I try to change it up but doing so receives much resistance.

Silence is not an opinion. But if you mean being silent instead of sharing your opinion? I do that a lot because sometimes when I share my opinon with certain people I feel like I wasted my time and breath. At other times I feel it's important to go ahead and say it though.

Yes, silence is the better option. As your perception and awareness seems to be one of peace and as your intelligent understanding of life is not being reciprocated in your daily life, perhaps you deserve an answer to help find a respectful and intelligent association. You might find the respectful association and satisfying conversation you want, in the discovery of what it means to be a Baha'i. Our spiritual realization is one of amazement when we truly desire it. I'm sure you will find a great change in what occurs around you as result

My motto: If you can't say something nice, then shut your trap! Whatever is said is heard not only from the person it is directed to but from the person who says it... So if you say something aweful, it starts a chain reaction of bad chemicals running through your body and the body of the listener; chemicals that trigger the survival mode of the body... These bad chemicals stay in the body for 36 hours wreaking havoc on yourself and the other person... Ever heard of the phrase: "... that person ruined my day?..." Because what was ever said to you or whatever you said that was mean triggered the chemical reaction that has a 36 hour duration...!

Yes I do..... As most people constantly try to prove that they are right and all knowing. Gods ways are higher and much better than ours. Silence is better to meditate and pray. Silence is better when you listen to others, just listen to nature oh I love silence... I love it when no one calls all day and just lets me be:)

Silence lets you hear your thoughts and relaxes you. If people cannot be positive, then they should keep to themselves.

If you have closed in feelings, think more of your own ideas, feel that you have nothing more to learn in life, and don't really value people then I suppose whatever they have to say to you would be more of a nuisance than a pleasure. Mmm

A wise old owl sat in an oak,
the more he saw, the less he spoke.
The less he spoke, the more he heard.
We need more folks like that old bird!
