Any other way is heretical and unamerican. It allows you to see where the tear line is so that you can precicely effect an accurately measured amount of toilet paper.

Depends upon the toilet paper holder you have. In my previous homes, I had the kind of holder that fit into the wall, next to the toilet. I had the toilet paper going underhand for those kinds of holders. In my current home, there are no wall holders, so I had to buy freestanding toilet paper holder stands. It is much easier to unroll the toilet paper on these stands when it is placed on the stand in an over-hand manner.

over...proof? Pattern-printed toilet paper is made to display the pattern if the paper is rolled over the top. You cannot see the pattern underhanded.

As long as it's accessible, I could care less. I never take care to put it in a special way.
I guess in my house, other people put it in over-hand, which does seem a little easier, but both work for me.

Over the top of the roll. My MIL does it the other way and it drives me crazy! I can never find the end!
