Depends on which state you reside. Check with the state's Department Of Conservation and Natural Resources or Fish and Game Commission for the legality of owning a skunk.

It depends on the state you live in, each state has different rules. No skunk is odorless- even if is has had its scent (spraying) glands removed.
Skunks have be domestically breed for many years now and come in several color variants. However, they have not be domestically bred for thousands of years like dogs and cats and still maintain MANY of their wild habits and instincts. Also, the only time you are able to get kits is in the early/mid summer because of skunks natural whelping cycle.
Skunks are much more difficult to raise than common pets, and are probably harder than children in some ways. Think of a toddler for life- only much smarter and dexterous than your average toddler. Not to mention feeding a skunk it like feeding someone on a strict medical diet- no kibble all in one here! If your skunk bits someone and they report it- your skunks life will be forfeit no if, ands, or buts. There is a rabies vaccine used in skunks but it is not "proven" and therefore your skunk with be put down. If you do not spay/neuter your skunk it will become an unmanagable beastie. People who breed skunks have no really relationship with their breeding stock- they are VERY wild and unpredictable.
Bringing one of these animals into your life and be a every good decision- if you are the right person/family for a skunk. It will require tons of research and then a long waiting game for kits. Trust me if you are asking about this now you will not be prepared to take a kit into your home this summer- and even if you were finding available kits is very hard. I put a deposit on mine the Feb before summer and still wasn't able to get exactly what I had hoped for.
Start by visiting these websites and see if it is even legal for you to have one and if you are a good canidate for skunk ownership!

The pet skunk report is not bad. The rare pets club that is
best known for its world wide membership, has prominent,
rare protections, near extinction, species actions on their
monthly meeting reports. There are lots of pet clubs to ask
for news about skunks. There are 16 major families in zoo
parks and related attempts to aid the natural skunk life in
conservation that I have read of, odorless has 3 types that
are kept. The good ideas of keeping pets sets them aside
that they are quite shy near predators, and carnivores so
in general each area has some rules to abide. Our rare pet
service does not allow skunks in america from breeding
types that might get into the local families. For good news
check this site. http://www.petwalkers.com

If you are married to a lawyer or a politician then you already have a pet skunk, and they are most definitely NOT odorless.

Heck, if people can have Tigers as pets, I guess a skunk not hurt anything. But, even if it OK, sometimes what neighbors say can change what you allowed. I not go there, just, I know for fact as I have seen this happen.

Back when I was married, I was driving with my wife when I saw that a skunk had been killed on the highway. There was a baby skunk by the mother, so I stopped and picked it up.

My ex asked me, "What are you going to do with that?"
I answered, "Take it home and keep it for a pet."
She asked, "Where is it going to sleep?"
I told her, "We will keep it under our bed."
She said, "What about the smell?"

"Hell", I told her, "I got used to it, he will too!"

it depends on the state. in many states it is illegal. The reason is because there is no legally approved rabies vaccine for them. Also even in states where they are legal, if it bites someone, animal control can take the animal away and euthanize it to test for rabies.
