An easy way to transfer a lot of files from your laptop is an external hard drive or a thumb drive. As long as you have USB. If you don't have USB, which I doubt unless your computer is like 8 years old. You could set up a wireless network from you laptop using file sharing. Never mind because you wouldn't have Wifi if you don't even have USB. Yea if you don't have USB I'm sure you have 3.5" floppy drive you could transfer that way.

Well there are several ways to do this. I'll go over the more conventional methods.

USB FLASH DRIVE

These little beauty's are both affordable and portable. The product is simple really, it's a keychain that you plug into your USB port and use as if it were a really big floppy. They work on both Mac's and PC's running Windows or Linux. They are available in many sizes starting at $10 USD.

ZIP Drive

ZIP Drives have been used for quite some time for data transfers between machines. The Zip Drive (IOmega) comes in SCSI, IDE, USB, SERIAL, and PARALLEL interfaces. They rely on specific Floppy disks that hold between 100 and 250 megabytes of data.

CR/R/RW (Burning a CD)

The preferred method of data backups and transfers where a network connection is not present. Burning data to CD's preserves it for eternity and is accessible on any PC.

DVD/RW

DVD's can hold a considerable amount more than conventional CD/R's. A whopping 4.7 up to 8gb's of storage space vs. the CD/R's 750mb (Less than 1 gb).

Send Over LAN

If you are on a network, you can transfer files view SHARED Folders on your laptop. Accessing them on the Desktop. Contact me for more info on this method.

When all else fails, Email it.

Using a free good service such as YouSendIt.com will allow you to upload a file attachment as large as 100mb and email it to anyone. They'll even provide you with a downloadable link good for 7 days so if you are unable to download the attachment or for some reason thee mail fails, you still can access your attachment.

Hope these methods help, there is one more...

You can purchase an EIDE Laptop to IDE Desktop adapter and attach your laptop drive to your desktop in place of the CD drive and access the content that way.

Thumb drive, flash drive, pen drive, all the same usb devices. You can get a 2 gig for as little as 30 bucks. If the PCs are on the same network, open help and type file sharing. This will give you an easy to follow tutorial on how to set it up.

The easiest way would be to transfer the files to a US flash drive and then carry it to the other computer. Simply plug in the USB drive and copy them to the new computer.

Several ways...some cheaper and easier than others.

I generally keep a flash drive around now....they aren't as big as traditional hard drives (you didn't mention the size of the files you want to transfer)....but works great for me.

CD's - the old way - still works, not recommended.

Transfer to neutral third site (i.e. online) than download.

Or finally, hook up directly using firewire or something like it.

You can use a USB drive as long as both computers have a USB port. Most newer computers do.
