There is an area of woods that had a large amount of wild box turtles. Well recently they started bulldozing the area so I went and collected over 20 wild turtles from the area before the area was cleared. I have a large fenced in backyard and used some chicken wire to keep them in the garden. I am having trouble finding places to release them around here. because the habitat I found them at was great. How hardy are these guys in the wild? Do they adapt well to different environments?

Find the most forested area you can close to the original site and release them as soon as possible. The more time that goes by, and the further you move them, the worse they will resettle.

Keep in mind that while your intentions were noble, the turtles really need to get back to a home, and it may possibly have been illegal to have collected them, especially in those numbers.

Please do not keep them- it is tough to keep wild turtles and make them happy unless you are set up for it.
