What do ya say to someone who interups you when you talk? I can't stand it! If I am talking about my problems they jump in on how important their problem is and expect me to listen! What's up with that?

They are in a contest to see who has the most problems. So they jump in before the buzzer sounds off. Just kidding, they have a lack of respect for you, and they are not being a true friend. A true friend listens to another person, more than they talk, not interupting until they are finished. A true friend always has a listening ear. Even if what you are talking about is not always pleasant. This goes both ways though. Let them know how you feel, and also listen to them as well.
This happens to me alot, so I try to make sure I'm not doing the same to others. Especially since this makes me feel bad, and hurt. I don't want to make others feel that way about me.

Not only have I been subject to this very same situation, I have also been guilty of it. Communication is a tricky state to deal with. It requires consideration and respect. I have some great friends who point out my unintentional thoughtlessness and we are good enough friends that I can do likewise. We've had to resort to having to inform each other that we have something we need to discuss first and would appreciate their ear only. Once we've blurted out whatever it is we have to say, the other person can add their 2 cents worth. It works really well for us. But, there are just some people you can't talk to and you learn that quite quickly, unless you're slow, like me. Then it's time for diplomacy. If that person doesn't clue in after one or two gentle reminders from you then you just exit stage left as politely as you can.

I've learned to catch myself (after too many years, I might add) and I've had the good fortune to have the best of friends to help me out with it. I know that when I do it, it's because I think what I have to say is valid and pertinent to the subject but more often than not, I've missed their point at the beginning and have failed to be a good listener. Then I get really bummed out.

Hi! It really depends on how close you are to that person. If you just met him/her, you can just let him/her talk and you can listen. You can still pick something on what he's/she's saying one way or another. But if she's/he's your friend, you can tell him/her frankly that you need him/her to listen to you. Listening is one important factor in good communication.

Since you can't listen and talk at the same time, I'll stop talking. Have a good day (and walk).

That s*** happened to me today. I was so p***ed off! I hate being ignored and I just said "You know what? I don't think I should talk anymore." Then they laughed thinking I was joking... apparently they weren't paying attention... I lost it and then they asked "What's wrong? Why are you mad." GRRRRR! >:*(
