What songs did he write? If you look at all of the Beatles' most popular songs, Paul McCartney wrote them all! Is it just because he died early?

McCartney wrote many of the songs but he was crap at lyrics. Lennon wrote the best lyrics. As far as the songs themselves, they really were a four man collaboration. Paul in no way wrote them all - if you want an example of what the Beatles would have been with Paul writing all the songs, look at his solo career. Hardly inspiring.

Up until "Sgt. Pepper", John and Paul wrote virtually every song as a team. One would get the chorus and the other would get the bridge, and they would come up with words from everywhere.
Starting with the "White Album", they began writing more solo songs, and that is what eventually broke them up. Not money, or women, or any of the other crap you hear.
They just grew apart musically... It was time to go... Even if we Beatlemaniacs never wanted it to end.
They were the greatest group ever and Lennon and McCartney were the greatest songwriting team.

He gets so much credit because he DID write a lot of the songs. If you look at the solo careers of the Beatles after the band broke up you can see the talent of each of them. Lennon's stuff is more profound than McCartney's in my opinion.

Lennon and McCartney were like peanut butter and chocolate. After the breakup of the Beatles, Paul collaborated with Denny Laine and John collaborated with Yoko. In terms of hits, Paul got the better collaborator.

But, I would ask you to seriously consider this: John's final album was "Double Fantasy," which had some really spectacular (non-Yoko) material. Meanwhile, Paul began recording lite rock with Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

I doan wanna "dis" Paul, I just wanna point out that both John and Paul were at their best when they were working together, and I think that had he not been killed, eventually John might've shown himself to be the songwriter with the greater shelf-life.

John met Paul on July 8, 1957. John was two years older.
They both had a great deal of influence on each other. Both were great songwriters and they used to bounce ideas off each other...especially in the early days. They made a decision early on in their songwriting relationship to share credit on every tune they wrote. A great book to read is one that was just published about two years ago called "THE BEATLES" It goes into extensive details about the band.

Most of the songs have Lennon/McCartney
as writers. Some were written by Harrison,
and once in awhile Ringo(Richard Starkey).

John Lennon and Paul McCartney were
the perfect fusion, because they were
such different people, or musicians.

When he was shot he instantly became the face of the beatles for everyone to recognize. Otherwise it could have been Paul we are talking about. George Harrison wrote most of the best songs like my guitar gently weeps

Go back and read the credits again.

Lennon/McCartney is how the credits read on most hits by The Beatles.

actually, lennon and mccartney wrote a lot of songs together. lennon was a founding member, and because he's dead probably gets him a little more attention.
