Some bands have designated songwriters in their bands, though the bands may also do "covers" of favorite songs that put them together as a band.

Some artists, however, are not writers. They listen to "demos", or songs that are written by someone to use on an album, and then the producers and artist decide what's best for their album.

Nobody is "hired" to write lyrics anymore. The Monkees aren't around to hear your question.

most bands hire a writer for at least one of their songs. But some (very few) write there own lyrics. Also a writer and a musician can write together.

Some bands may only play their own material, while some may not have any talent for writing their own songs at all. Most bands however do a mixture of both.

Either way.

Local, small bands usually write their own.

Bigger, famous bands can go either way - they tend to have the money to buy the lyrics if they need or want to.

I think most bands pride themselves in writting their own music!

both, some bands write songs and get them "cleaned up" by professionals, you should check the cd, it will say who is responsible for the writing, producing, etc...

either way, it depends on the band. most rock bands write their own music. and personally, i think they all should because its more meaningful for them to write their own.
