Being a ferret owner myself, my immediate response is ferret. But they do require a lot of time and if you don't have that to give, then a dog would probably be the best answer for you.

It all depends on if the pet you want would be living in the house. I assume you would have them in the house since you are comparing dogs with ferrets and a sugar glider.
Here are the positives about each.
DOGS - Once house broken they are a joy to have around. Always ready to please, soft and cuddly, funny, smart, and they always greet you like you are the most important person in the world.
FERRETS - These lovable creatures are very smart, they are fun to watch and fun to play with. They are also soft and cuddly. They are unique, each having their own personality.
SUGAR GLIDERS - Once a sugar glider gets to know you they are fun to have around. When you need to leave for a while they are content to stay in their cage. Having two is better because you can watch them play. Their diet consist mainly of fruit which cheap and easy to keep in stock. Canned fruits are cheap and they are a treat.
Here are the negatives.
DOGS - If you have a dog in the house and you must leave for a day or so, you will have to find someone to take care of them. No matter how well house broken a dog is it will still have accidents, especially if they are left alone. Smaller dogs have smaller bladders and will have more accidents. Smaller dogs are also more feisty which may cause trouble with guests. They are a needy animal which can be a problem when you need some alone time and they want to play.
FERRETS - These animals are like and rodent, getting into trouble all the time. They are good climbers and also good at opening cabinet doors, which means getting at the snack foods. They like to hide food and some foods will rot and cause an oder. They are playful but their playfulness means small bites intended for fun but may hurt at times.
SUGAR GLIDERS - Until these animals get to know you they are aggressive. It takes a long time for them to feel comfortable around you and therefore it will be a long time before you can hold them. Even then they will not like other people. They bond with one person and so, unlike ferrets and dogs, they are not good to have around children.
With all the possitives and negatives weighed, a dog is the best choice in my opinion. If you do decide to get another dog take the time to decide which breed is best for you. For example: a Pug is cute and funny but it's not very playful. A Terrier is more feisty and playful but they are also needy and less cuddly. A poodle doesn't shed but you will have to get it's hair trimmed often.
Think about your situation at home. If you live with children and/or a wife, then the dog is the best choice. If you live alone then the ferret or the sugar glider may be the best choice.
So ... you have some important details here to consider. No one can tell you which is the pet for you but now at least you can make a more informed decision.

Dogs are much better than the ferret or sugar glider. Dogs have evolved with humans. They sleep at night, do well in a family environment (pack), and give a lot of positive feedback.
Ferrets really stink, and they sleep most of the day.
Sugar gliders are active late at night when most humans are sleeping.

I don't know about Sugar Gilders but we have had 2 ferrets and they are hard to care for. They smell and the ones we had were so smart no matter what we did they eventually figured out how to get out of their cages. They then get into your furniture and tear things up. They weren't mean or anything just hard to care for. Dogs are a better choice.

Ferrets produce a smell, which can be quiet bad. i dont know what a sugar glider is. dogs can be great pets, they come in diffrent sizes, needs, temperments, some dont get along w/ other dogs. why not start out w/ a fish?

I've had dogs and 1 ferret. I gotta be honest and say that a dog is the way to go. The best pets out there. Ferrets are kinda tough to play with bc they're so squirrly. Haha Im sure you'll be happy with any one of them.

well I have had dogs and ferrets and rabbits and hamsters and a guinne pig.
Ferrets are a lot of work and they are a lot of fun. I miss mine. my boy we could turn him upside down and he would lick our nose. Are girl was addicted to pepsi. little twit would always find the one glass that had the pepsi.
Of course dogs are the easiest once they are potty trained and not chewing things up. rember this is 2 years old. as they are pups until they are 2.
And yes ferrets and dogs get along. I would say if you haven't had a ferret try one. Call your animal shelter to see if they have one for adoption or have the number to the ferrett rescue legue. Both of my ferretts were rescued.

We have 3 ferrets and 4 dogs..plus a few more... ferrets are so playful and curious, they are like having little kids around, but just like with a toddler, you have to ferret-proof your house. Plus vet bills can be spendy with them. On the plus side, you can potty train your ferrets to go in a litter box.
Dogs, I think, are a good choice because you can teach them tricks.
