I assume the question is when does the 2nd ship pass the 1st.

The 1st ship has a 20 mile head start. But the 2nd ship is making up ground at the rate of 5 mph
20 m / 5mph = 4hr
4hr+ from the time of the 2nd ship or 5hr+ from the time of the 1st ship.

If the first ship sailed at midday it would be twenty miles away by one o clock. The second ship would sail and at two o clock would be 25 miles away from port and fifteen miles away from the first ship.
At three pm the first ship would be sixty miles out and the second ship 50 miles out.
At five pm the two ships will be the same distance out.
Ship one 5 hours@20mph =100miles out
Ship two 4 hours@25mph =100 miles out.

4 hours, that an easy in the head math.
First ship is 20 miles out and the second moving 5 mph faster. 20/5=4 it in the head math no need for a calculator.
