I believe that the vast majority of all people work - liberal or conservative. The difference here is that conservatives tend to favor lower taxes and less social programs while liberals prefer the opposite.
So, if you're fairly wealthy - then naturally you'd like to keep the money you earn - and you'll vote conservative (usually).
If your income is rather low, then you'd naturally be in favor of the "re-balancing of wealth" by taxing the rich and giving to the poor. Therefore, you'll vote liberal (usually).
I don't think its an issue of working or not working - but rather, it's an issue of working for high wages vs. low wages.

Liberals have good ideas and are 'progressive', but a lot of the criticism comes during implementation. You might see some results in the short term (mainly to win votes), but corruption usually kicks in over the longer term. A really good liberal idea creates a program that eventually gets bogged down with bureaucracy...and the program typically becomes more of a burden than an aid...but there are exceptions.
Some really good 'liberal' ideas came from the real Democrats; remember FDR and the New Deal? He also helped promote Wall Street stability. Unfortunately, what we see today are a lot of socialists disguised as Democrats. True Democrats need to reclaim their party.
Apart from corruption (which exists in all political parties), a lot of ideas tend to take on a life of their own and end up with consequences that nobody really wanted. For example, a common liberal matra is "tax the wealthy!"...a very noble-sounding Robin Hood-like cause. The reality is that many of the taxes that were originally meant to tax the wealthy usually get passed on to the middle class (the wealthy are able to devise strategies to avoid/minimize taxes.) In a sense, the middle class was actually voting for more taxes on themselves. This is one of the main reasons why conservatives will roll their eyes when a new tax program is introduced.

I am realizing that maybe I read your question wrong...that when you say 'work' you mean as in a 9 to 5 job? Then my answer is:
Coming to work is not so much a function of whether you are liberal or conservative. You might demonstrate a bias towards hanging loose (people-oriented) if you are liberal, and a bias toward working hard (performance-oriented) if you are conservative. Very difficult to prove...you just have to observe; but you will see many exceptions. My mom is a liberal but is very hard-working.
At the extreme, there are 'liberal' people that are afraid to work because they believe it will prevent them getting certain welfare benefits; however, these are people that are not really liberal but lazy, and they tend to vote for liberal politicians mainly because those politicians promote programs that favor their situation. But I figure if they are that lazy, they probably don't even vote.

Hmmm...maybe its because the democratic party buys votes from low income people. Democrats want a national health care system that will provide care to all including the unemployed and those on welfare. Increase taxes. Increase the size of our government since americans cant take care of themselves. State and federal employees dont perform as well as individul businesses. Increase the minimum wage for those who cant get a better job. Democrats target blacks, mexicans, the poor and now Islam. Thats why they want to provide all these demoralizing institutions. So you dont have to stand up on your own two feet. Sorry for the stereotype especally to the black race. Much of the black race are starting to turn to the party that has values, morales, and keeps tradional america alive.

I'm single father and I have a Engineering technician job and work nights once a week to get ready to help pay for my kids college. I'm very Liberal but only a Democrat because the Neo-cons and general ignorance is ruining the country and the Democrats are the only ones standing in their way. I'm a Democrat (and have been one since Reagan's 2nd term). A true Liberal does things on principle, not because of his pocket book

This is some evidence for you:
>>Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:
1. Population of counties won by: Gore: 127 million; Bush: 143 million;
2. Square miles of land won by: Gore: 580,000; Bush: 2,427,000;
3. States won by: Gore: 19 Bush: 29 (yet Gore almost won the Presidency)
4. Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Gore: 13.2, Bush 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the tax-paying citizens of this great country. Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements living off government welfare."<<

Because you all spend so much time flag burning, President bashing, troop effigy burning, conspiracy theorizing, witch hunting, time wasting rhetoric splitting and war protesting. How can you have time to work...maybe that's the idea? Keep up the good work!
Hey little "g" ,
You are so sadly delusional and wrong but, keep on believing that if it makes you feel happy. Conspiracy on dude!

I think that's because almost all of the people who are on welfare claim to be liberal, so it just makes it look that way. But you can't say that's true about all liberals.

The reason why most people believe that liberals don't work is because most of the liberals they see are employed in teaching or government.
Couple that with the inherent liberal inability to distinguish between fact and fallacy, disdain for logic, and total ignorance of basic economics, and you have an image of someone functionally unemployable.

Take a look at each state's median income. Then look at how they vote. The high earning states are all blue states, while the low earning states are all Republican. Looks to me like Democrats work just fine....
