We use our rats to breed feeder rats for our snakes. It's obvious which ones are male and female when they are adults but as a baby I'm not sure. One of the school teachers wanted a baby female rat. How old do they need to be to accurately sex them? How old do they need to be before you can give them away?

Also how old does a Dwarf hamster have to be before you can give them away? The baby rats and the baby hamsters were born the same day. They are 3 weeks old. We have homes for the hamsters we just need to know when we can give them to their new owners.

The best way to tell is before they have fur. Check their bellies. Girls have nipples and boys don't. Take a magic marker and put a little mark on either the girls' tails or the boys' tails so you can tell the difference when they are older.

(I never had much luck with the closer-farther apart checking on the genitals from the anus.)

in basic terms a warning - in case you have a male rat, do no longer placed yet another grownup male rat with it. grownup male rats are somewhat territorial, and that they might heavily injure one yet another. in case your rat is woman, you will no longer be able to only unload yet another rat in there. First, placed some vanilla extract on your arms and gently rub the coats of the two rats (save them seperate). do no longer use too lots. leave them on my own of their seperate cages for a jiffy, then placed them the two in a dry tub. enable them to mingle for a at the same time as. they might even neglect approximately one yet another. sparkling the completed CAGE. Scrub the surfaces, exchange the bedding, boxes, toys, etc. be particular each and every thing is new. then you could placed them the two in. Doing this would help save them from scuffling with.

4 weeks old at least for both. Male private bits are far away from their bum and female private bits are right beside the bum in baby rats.
