I recently recieved a dryer from my parents and once we got it here, we realized that the recepticle is a four wire one and the power cord on the dryer is a three wire. So we were wondering if this model of dryer can have a four wire power cord put onto it? Thanks for all your help!

yes you can change the power cord...all this will do is allow you to have a frame ground....on the center terminal of your dryer where the cord hooks on ...if there is a metal jumper from the terminal to the frame you just have to remove this..

Get a piece of paper and copy the plug pattern from the wall outlet you'll be plugging into. Go to Home Depot with that copy, and the cord that needs to be replaced. They will match you up with the exact part that fits both the machine and outlet. I changed out my cord the last two times we've moved, and it's pretty easy. Just look how you take it apart, and it goes back together the same way. Have fun :) Just remember to unplug the cord before you get started .... of course!

Four wire plugs are required now per the electric code. Sure no problem just have the cord replaced or do it your self if you feel safe doing it.

We changed ours to a four prong. No problems.

We've had the Maytag I think 16 yrs now.

It would be better to have the receptacle changed to a 3 wire type to make sure you have the proper "phasing".
