My lease will be up on 5/12. I planned on moving on, not renewing the lease, but I just found out I was supposed to give a 60 day notice. I spoke to one of the woman who works for the apartment and she said I was supposed to receive a notice, I never did. So, now I'm being forced to pay for an entire extra month and it won't include my special rate I got before-I'll be paying the market value. I explained to her that I'm paying for my rent with student loans and I won't have enough money to cover the extra rent. What do I do?

Wow, looks like you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. My only suggestion would be to go back and check the terms of your original lease. You can go ahead and give your landlord your official notice of intent to move on the 12th of May. If they insist on the remainder of the money tell them you will have to make payment arrangements due to your situation and that may save you court costs on down the road. Hopefully you will find something in your original lease agreement that will let you out without penalty. Good luck.

If this is not printed in your lease, you shouldn't be responsible. But however if this clause is in the lease, you are. One thing you can do is ask to make payment arrangements on the balance owed. Most places will work with you if you have a good track record. If they don't then you may have to go to court, and pay extra fees and may also be subject to pay another lease term. Be careful! Good luck!

I would write a letter to the manager and or owner. You need to ask for special consideration. Good luck.
