i am a high school sprint swimmer (my best events are the 50 and 100 free). what helps a lot is reaction drills to help you get off the block faster. Stand in start position. Have someone take a start gun (or whatever its called) and shoot it. the second he shoots it, you should immediately jump up as high as you can into streamline. this drill has helped a lot with my reflexes.
also, this may be obvious but ill say it anyways. never, especially for sprinting, breath off of the wall or on your first stroke once diving in.
also, you probably already know this too, but when you finish, touch with the end of your finger tip, not with the flat part of your hand. when every millisecond counts, that can make a huge difference.
something my coach has being helping me with is kicking powerfully right before and after the flip turn. to help this, he had me do a really annoying but affective drill. in the deep end, he had me lie down and begin to scull. as i was sculling, i had to kick as fast as i could, gradually building speed. once i got as fast as i could go, i started swimming, sprinted into the wall, did a flip turn, and swam half way back. this helps your speed because you are starting at no speed and moving to your maximum.
a drill to help your turn is to stand at the flags in the shallow end. do a flip in the water as fast as you can and sprint into the closest wall, do a flip turn, and push off. this drill helps the speed of your turn, because you have the speed of the flip in your head as you are doing the flip turn.
for workouts, do a lot of short sprints with not a lot of rest to build up the lactic acid to mimick what you will be feeling at a race (kind of like the beginning of a taper)
though you probably heard of a lot of this, i hope it helps!!
good luck!!

In addition to the other suggestions, work on your lung busters. You should be doing the first 25 with no breaths and the second with 2 or less off the wall.

To practice you can do off-the-block 25 sprints with no breath then do walk around recovery. A set should be 5 to 10. You can also do countdown breathing. First 100 you take 4 breaths per 25. Second you take 3 breaths per 25. Third you take 2 breaths per 25, fourth you take only 1 breath per 25. It's rough but you can push through it and as much as it sucks it is very helpful.

Good luck!!!

Work on your dive and turn, improve your reaction time off the block and flip faster on the turn, also the second you enter the water from the time you exit kick as hard as you can. Finally don't flail your arms around, try to have a strong, controlled stroke.

hi i am a 13 y/o swimmer and maybe i can help you. try to swim 1, 500m in a moderate swim with paddles and the last 50m, you sprint. and then 10 sets of 50m free sprint without paddles and then the 5th set try to rest for 30sec. and continue~~~break your time in every set
