When two substances replace each other( cation being a positive ion..could be in the combined compound) I believe that the reaction is called double replacement.

its a double replacement.
that is becuz 2 ions are displacing.
if the reaction was
2KCl + I2 ---> 2KI + Cl2
then it is single replacement.only Cl is displaced by I2.
