The best oils are royal purple and Mobile 1. I use mobile one in both of my porsches. Theyre expensive ($5 or so a quart, and porsches use tons of oil per change), but last longer, and are much better on the engine. Best investment you can make on a car.
porsches also dont usually go by the 3000 to an oil change. My old carrera was every 15000 i think. I changed it every 10-12 though. Not sure about boxsters, but go by the manual.
also, check your oil every thousand or so miles. Its VERY VERY normal, and expected for high performance cars to use some oil, sometimes as much as like half a quart every 1000 miles. Theyre designed to do this, so dont be worried, unless theres oil dripping from the car, which is bad.
and dont use gas additives. theyre a waste of money and dont really do anything. if cars needed them, the additives would already be in the gas (there are all the detergents and additives you need in the gas already).
and thank you for being a smart car buyer, and asking people who know what theyre talking about. finally a smart consumer.
also, if you have any questions that you just want answered quickly, you can email them to Phanofmuzik@gmail.com. Its my sons account, but he is just as knowledgable (if not moreso) than me on Porsches.

Mobil 1 is quickly turning to junk. They're eliminating zinc and phosphate from the oil. This will prevent burnt oil from ruining the catalytic converter, which helps emissions. Trouble is that zinc and phosphate are important in preventing engine wear. They've lost an important oil service classification (what oil is right for what application). I'll be looking elsewhere for oil when I change it in my Porsche this spring.
I would recommend looking into Redline engine oil. Check your manual for the specified grade (I know that older Porsches love thick oil, like a 20-50 in summer, not sure on the new stuff.) No affiliation, but their transmission oil worked wonders in my car. It's a little more expensive than Mobil 1, though, and you can't find it anywhere. You'll likely need to mail-order.
Gas additive- only Chevron Techron injector cleaner. Anything else is snake oil. Additives are not magic. Even Techron doesn't prevent the need to pull and clean injectors at a major service. It's more important to use the recommended octane gasoline, as that will prevent detonation (fuel igniting before it should) and permit your engine to make full power.

It should say in the manual what type of oil porsche recommends. It's probably a synthetic. I have heard only good things about royal purple, but you really can't go wrong with any oil out there. They are pretty much the same. Just make sure you use the correct weight.
As for additives a fuel injector cleaner can be used once in a while, like once a year. You don't need to use an octane booster unless you are messing with the timing at all. The engine is tuned to run on the octane they specify in the manual.

Mobil 1 5W-30. Change oil and filter every 3000 miles.
Do not use any fuel additives. Purchase fuel from Amoco/BP, Shell, Mobil or Phillips 66 because their fuels are already set to maximize your vehicle's performance. Do not buy from discount gasoline stations.

in basic terms stay with the synthetics which got here with and are special on your vehicle. The minor quantity of difference ingredients could make isn't surely worth the aptitude issues which could take place, you have a marvelous vehicle, shop it nice!

Porsche says to use Mobile One. If you buy gas from SHELL, CHEVRON, or someone like that you do not need any additive.

They say the Royal Purple is good stuff, haven't tried it yet myself. As long as you are using the proper grade of gas, you shouldn't have to add any additives.
