Join clubs or organizations. Just throw everything you have out there and meet people. If you put out the effort, you will make a lot of friends. I am going to a college where I knew no one to start. I'm now in my second semester and I have tons of friends. I'm not a super outgoing person either so anyone can do it they just have to put out the effort. Good luck..You'll be fine.

My first year in college wasn't a breeze either - I had 3 things going against me:
1. I was only 15 yrs. old - most of the other freshmen were 2-3 yrs. older
2. It was my first experience in a mixed environment (boys & girls)
3. It was my first taste of the public school system (I was educated in a convent school from elem. to HS)

There were actually 10 of us from the same HS to enrol in the same university but it's so easy to lose 9 people out of thousands in a campus that's as big as a real community.
I knew from the start that I had to be tough so I prepared myself mentally.

I made a conscious decision that I will make friends - I will start with my seatmates in diff. classes, then the students next to me in the library, and then the students in the next table at the cafeteria. Only the first time was kinda awkward; everything after that was easy.

I also considered joining social clubs (akin to my interests or to my field of study) and I did.

Finally, I pysched myself that my college will be exciting and memorable - I will attend parties, I will take interest in sports, I will do things beyond my studies, etc. - and yes, I did all that with flying colors!

That was in the Philippines.

You can do the same. Good luck.

First year was great! Make friends, hang out, date, etc. Get involved....learn the names and befriend those in your dorm, in your classes & major, and in the activities you join (even if it is just the gym!) Just don't forget to get the schoolwork done...its a blast, but I knew far too many people who partied too hard and had to climb their way out of the GPA hole.
