My call to Aunt Bertha is between Aunt Bertha and me it is no one else's business. If the Department of Homeland Security is doing its job and our National Guard is to guard our home than we need not worry about security. Scare tactics work well when one is trying to get people to bow to a dictator. I won't bow and I am not scared.
A closed government as we have seen with the Neocon Congresses and the Administration are not healthy for a democracy. Sure, there are state secrets that must remain secret but much of what the said Congress and Admin need not be secret. As for the time line it is not in stone. It is a recommended date of departure. If the situation worsens it is very possible that the exodus out of Iraq could stop or reverse. It won't matter whether we are there or not the insurgents are going to do what they want until fellow Arabs tell them to knock it off. They have handled disputes in that part of the world for over 3000 years and they hardly need the help of a barely wet behind the ears nation to tell them what to do.

The people control the government, not the other way around. It is the people that make America what it is and it is our right to know what our government is doing in our name.
The government has no right to listen to ANY phone call I make. If I am calling a KNOWN terrorist I expect them to listen to the phone call, otherwise they have business knowing whom I am calling and what for.
Just because Democrats have a different view of the threat to our National Security does not mean they do not care.
One could make the argument that Bush doesnt care about the threat to our National Security himself, since he has failed miserably to lock down our borders.

I understand that yes our national security is important....but reality is that we are NEVER secure if we are in Iraq or not. The bill that congress is trying to pass is only to push Bush to take these poor soldiers out of there ASAP, we are waisting our time. No matter if we set a timetable or not, these crazy terrorist will wait 10,000 years to do whatever they want. So Bush is going to veto this bill, and he doesn't care if we provide funding for our soldiers. He wants them to fight with WATER GUNS...to Protect our country??? Yeah right, I think this whole thing is just an EGO Dilema. We already lost this war, and keeping our soldiers there won't establish anything. If we want to change the middle east, then we should stay there forever to change their stupid ideologies.

Do they think the US population was informed of every decision during WWII, it sure wasn't. Why if their greatest leader FDR felt a need to keep secret many details of the war in Europe and the Pacific do Dems feel that the US should give free access to the media and thus our enemies to all war plans.

Why are Republicans content to continue on a failed policy course, despite qualified objections on a constant and persistent basis?
The biggest threat to our national security is an incompetent, corrupt government that seems to think accountability is "unpatriotic" and there is one branch of government.

I take it that you don't have a problem when Bush says that he won't let his people appear before Congress under oath and with records kept. You are exactly what our Founding Fathers warned us about. Someone who is willing to sacrifice his own freedom for security, but not willing to demand open government.
And if your idea of security is to make it more difficult for legal American citizens to get into this country than illegal immigrants, you have the right leader. Don't you?

I'm no demo and I want, and have a right to know EVERYTHING that goes on in this government that affects me, my family, my security, my troops, my enemies, etc.
That doesn't leave out much.except when the president takes care of personal matters, like washing his hands or eating his meals.

Well I can say I would rather hear some of it than none of it or lies to make you believe it, wouldn't you. And no they don't care about National Security like our president who was going to sell the security of our nations largest ports to the people that attacked us. Forgot that one didn't you.

It's called the US constitution and it's what defines us as a nation. Try reading it some time.
If they want to listen to me talk to my aunt let them, provided that they have a warrant. Thats what the constitution says the government has to have and it's not inconsistent with national security for them to have to get one.
